Airu and Ren didn't have much in common, but they did share the trait of not listening to Ryouma. Ren would be bobbing his head up and down, listening to whatever music his random shuffle had landed on. Airu would be humming the theme song from some anime with cute characters, and Ryouma would grit his teeth and talk to the wall, since that was his only attentive audience.
So he didn't quite notice those times when Ren's Walkman ran out of battery juice and the earphones in his ears were just a ruse. He didn't quite notice Airu humming something other than her usual songs, nor did he notice Ren's head bobbing up and down in time with her tune. But even he couldn't miss Ren suddenly jumping, blushing and dislodging the earphones from his lobe with Airu smirking from her chair.
Ryouma figured the two were playing some sort of game amongst themselves (that Ren had apparently just lost), and wished they'd be more serious.
