Love thy Kindred's Sorrow
You weren't supposed to love a person's sorrow.
He loved it though; he basked in its dull grey light that didn't hurt his eyes like the bright laughter now often did. And he knew he should feel some pity, some empathy – he'd been in those very shoes not long ago, watching the burial of his only friend.
This boy was watching the burial of his only brother, and both of them shared the guilty, repent yet regretful tears.
And both of them were chained, by the dead one's dreams. Both of them crushed as their loved one spread their wings and soared away.
Instead of pitying the kindred soul, he was going to exploit him to lift his own heavy weight from his shoulders.
