Blown it

He'd done it now. He'd gone and blown it all. Any chance he could have had with the one girl that was perfect for him, that was perfect for the world! And he'd blown it. Of course they'd end up together in the end, it was already predestined by fate and legend and the red ribbon that connected their pinky fingers together, but for now, Mamoru Chiba was convinced he'd let the one girl that could love him and make him perfect go.

She'd be the one that got away, always. All because he'd called her a meatball head and a clutz one time too many.

Usagi had screamed and cried, Rei and Makato had barged in, given him a slap and some verbal abuse, Rei had then hit on him, only to evoke more wails from the blonde haired odango before the five teenage girls left the crown café. Mamoru wanted to punch himself at that moment because he'd always truly loved the girl but had never had the guts to tell her all the things he wanted to say and do to her. He wanted to tell her she was beautiful, that when her hair shone gold in the sun it reminded him of a princess from a book he'd once read when he was a little orphan. That he wanted to take her somewhere expensive, buy her roses and waltz her around a dance floor and around the park, under the trees and the moon before giving her a rose and taking her home. He wanted to meet her parents and kiss her good night on her porch, wanted to collapse against her door because kissing her would feel so good and it would drive him insane, like not kissing her drove him insane now.

But even Motoki, his best friend, knew he'd gone too far. He'd told Mamoru he'd been too harsh on the girl and that it was only expected that she'd get fed up of trying because it had been there for everyone, even the blind to see that they were totally in love and head over heels for each other.

But he'd gone and blown it by using a name that he'd thought was a pet name for her.

So his heart broke when he walked into his favourite hang out 2 years later to see her cuddled up to a man, just a year or so younger than himself but a complete doppelganger. The man had an arm curled around her shoulders, offering her a rose and she was more than happy to take it, giggling. The sun framed her face, golden rays lighting her dimples and Mamoru felt sick to the stomach because they were talking. Sapphire had pulled out a small, silver promise ring and was slipping it on the wedding finger of her right hand "These last 18 months with you have been perfect". He kissed her and Mamoru almost threw himself onto the counter top to avoid watching the scene that he should be part of. Then the knife was driven into his heart when she said those three words that she should be saying to him. The three words that would of made her his 2 years ago.

Author's Notes: This one was a quick idea that just came to me, inspired by the realisation that I used to talk about baka ben here and how things have changed... I'll have been with my boyfriend for 18 months on tuesday and it's kinda weird cause I had a huge thing on my best friend for years and he was my own little "baka" in some ways but things with my boyfriend have made things with my baka a lot different.. I kinda wonder what would it be like had things worked with baka and not the boyfriend but at the same time it's like YAY! boyfriend.. He's a pain in the rump but I love him.

anyways.. there's more to come hopefully.. not for this story but for fanfiction in general
