The Pardoner's Tale A rewrite from Chaucer's 'The Canterbury Tales'

{Picking up from where the three men found the gold.}

"What should we do with it?"

"Divide it up among us."

The young man went into town for bags for the gold and food. The other two sat with the gold and talked.

"You know if we killed him then we'd only have to split the gold half way."

"Yes, but then we'd never be able to live with ourselves."

They sit and think about it for a while. The young man has the same thoughts and doesn't get the poison. He returns and they share the bread and wine. Then at night they divided up the gold.

*Ten years later*

The three men get together to talk about what happened and how their lives are now. All of them where married, had children, and lived on large farms.

They had gone looking for death and instead found life.
