AN - It´s short, I know... It´s not beta-read, so all the mistakes are mine. The lyrics are by Rascall Flatts. The song is called 'What Hurts The Most'.

A/N2 – This is an updated version. I tried to correct the mistakes I made at the time I first published it. I hope it's better. (:

Summary - Nobody noticed the tear on the floor. RS-oneshot.

Disclaimer - I don't own anything.

Unspoken Words

He saw her every day to an other. They looked at each other, but either one made no move.

They hanged out every day but nothing more.

Neither one knew how the other one felt.

They just lived.

They had their own boyfriends and girlfriends.

Both enjoyed the moments without anyone else but didn't show it. There were two in the room, but still they were separated.

They talked but that wasn't enough.

Every night they went to bed, thinking about each other.

They had used to live alone. With someone they didn't really love.

"So..."

"So..."

''So you're back together with him?''

"Yeah... I hope it will be different this time," she said.

They looked at each other, thinking about the same thing.

'Just lean forward...'

There was a long silence.

The door opened and Marissa and Seth came in.

There was always someone between them.

Both thought about life with each other. Life, that would have been so much easier.

Why couldn´t she be with Ryan?

Why couldn´t he be with Summer?

That was just it.

There was no reason.

It took a disaster for them to realise the truth.

A death.

A death of her best friend.

A death of his ex-girlfriend.

They were both alone, again.

She left her boyfriend and left to college, haunted by her feelings.

What hurts the most
Is being so close
And having so much to say
And watching you walk away
And never knowing
What could have been
And not seeing that loving you
Is what I was trying to do

What if she would have stayed?

What if he would have left, too?

There was only questions, without any answer.

Then there was the end.

He picked up the ringing phone.

"Hello?"

"Hey, honey. It's Kirsten."

"Hey. What's up?" he asked, walking fouther in his apartment.

"I just got a call from Neil.."

"Why?" he asked, standing still. Why?

"Summer was on his way to work..."

No... No... No...

"And?" he whispered.

"There was a car and..." she sobbed.

The phone was dropped on the floor.

Ryan walked down the isle to the coffin.

He had flown to Newport. To the town where his friend would be buried.

He stopped on the side of the coffin and layed a white rose on it.

"I don't think you knew it but I really loved you," he whispered softly. "I'm sorry."

He walked away, not wanting to stay.

Nobody noticed the tear on the floor.

I can take the rain on the roof of this empty house
That don't bother me
I can take a few tears now and then and just let them out
I'm not afraid to cry every once in a while
Even though going on with you gone still upsets me
There are days every now and again I pretend I'm ok
But that's not what gets me

"Are you sure you love Seth?"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean... what if there would be someone else out there?"

She was silent, staring at him.

"There isn´t."

He nodded.

It's hard to deal with the pain of losing you everywhere I go
But I'm doin' It
It's hard to force that smile when I see our old friends and I'm alone
Still harder
Getting up, getting dressed, livin' with this regret
But I know if I could do it over
I would trade give away all the words that I saved in my heart
That I left unspoken
