"Enjoy, my sweets! And don't forget to review!"
"I walk the streets through seven bars
I had to find just where you are,
The faces seems to blur, they're all the same"
-Love Remains the Same~ Gavin Rossdale
It had all gone south. Practically all of Republic City had turned on her. And she was not taking it well at all. So she disappeared. Bolin hadn't seen her all day, Asami said that she came by and changed clothes, but she left before she could even ask what happened. He knew where to find her though. But he had to give her some credit; she chose a very good hiding place.
Seven bars he'd been to, and still no sign of her. He was beginning to think that he had missed her. But it was in the eighth bar that he found her. She was sitting at the counter in a blue pinstriped suit with a matching hat. Her hair was out of its normal pony-tail, falling past her shoulders like a chocolate waterfall, but she had left her hair beads in. He was surprised that the men there had not launched themselves at her, she looked absolutely stunning.
He shakes his head to clear it and walks over to her, taking a seat down next to her. "Howdy." he says.
She jumps slightly, surprised by his sudden appearance, but she recovers quickly, returning to her cool demeanor. "What are you doing here?" she mumbles, refusing to look at him as she takes a sip of whatever liquid was in her glass.
He shrugged, "What do you think? I'm here for a drink." He told her.
The pudgy bartender walks up to him then, "What'd you like?" he asks gruffly.
He nods toward the water tribe girl he's fallen for, "Whatever she's having."
The pudgy bartender glances briefly at Korra's blank expression briefly before going off to get him his drink.
"Why are you really here?" she asks after the bartender leaves.
He sighs, "I was worried."
She scoffs, "About me being alive or dead?"
"Yes, but not in the way you're thinking." He answers.
She slams her glass down onto the table, her head whipping around to face him. Her crystal clear blue eyes were angry but searching, as if she was hoping that he would say exactly what she wanted to here. "Then what way am I thinking?" she asks.
He faces her, looking her dead in the eye, gold on blue. "You're thinking that since you are the avatar, the embodiment of peace itself, delicately hanging in the balance of life and death, people are only worried that your death would bring the end of the line of avatars. And you are wrong." He could see tears start to form behind her eyes. "We like you for you, Korra. It doesn't matter that you're the avatar. We love you for the fiery, stubborn, cocky, water-tribe girl that you are."
A slow tear fell from the corner of her eye and trailed down her cheek. And suddenly, her lips were on his. He was surprised briefly, but then he realized that this was Korra and-yes- she was kissing him. He wasted no time in kissing her back. His right hand went to her cheek and gently wiped the tear away. Then he abruptly pulled back, enjoying the dazed and confused look she wore on her face. "Wanna get out of here?" he asks her with a smile.
She smile back, "More than anything." she says, tossing a few coins on the table to cover her drink as she joins her hand with his, following as Mako leads them out of the dingy bar and into the street. She is smiling and laughing, carefully holding her hat on her head, and she figures that-maybe- they would get through this slump, together.
