A/N: Okay, this is my very first fanfic out of the Twilight fandom and I'm very excited!
The Sweet Far Thing spoilers!
So, obviously there are spoilers :p
Waiting
I wait for her as I always do. It's pleasant here, the trees with their bright green coats, and the flowers looking like rainbows. Of course, none of this beauty could compare to her. I chuckle, remembering the first time I saw her – I most certainly wasn't knocked off my feet by her beauty. No, she was beautiful because of the things she did and the sacrifices she made for others, and obviously, she was pretty.
Finally, she arrives. I can see her distantly on the other bank of the large river that separates us. I long to swim across – to battle the rough tide – so she could be in my arms again, but I can't. I must be a gentleman and follow the rules. I'm not to touch her.
I wave and I think she sees me. I smile, trying to relax all her fears in one smile gesture. I can feel her anxiety from here, and I wish to calm her, but how…
I spot a stick on the ground beside me. Perfect. I snatch it up and start to draw the symbol I need to show her how much I love her, that I will always wait for her and that one day we will be together, no matter our race. I will be here for her if she wants me.
I finish my drawing in the soft, new soil and step back, proud that the drawing looks like it is supposed to. The interlocked hands inside a circle is now proudly displayed and I hope she knows what it means. Sunlight beats down on the back of my neck and I know it's time to go. I must leave her, my love, my Gemma, and return to where I belong.
No, come back. I can hear her call. I try to smile, but it hurts too much.
I'm here. Is all I can say, because I will always be with her. I can see her squint in the light, and I can feel her frustration at my leaving. I try to comfort her: You can't hold back the light, Gemma. I'm here. Trust me. At those two little words, she relaxes. I watch, hidden by the light, as the river swells and erases my symbol, but it doesn't matter. She has seen it. She knows.
Gemma eventually disappears from view, she's in her world now – the real world – and I'm left behind in this other world. I must wait for her. She is my unfinished business. I cannot cross without her.
I sigh and sit down in the lush green grass to wait.
I will always wait for her.
A/N: I'm really interested in seeing what you thought, since it was my first story trying to write some of my favorite characters outside of Twilight. Did I do the fabulous Kartk justice? And if you like it, would you be interested in seeing more A Great And Terrible Beauty fanfics from me? I know it's kind of early to tell.
Please review, and thanks for reading!
