Prologue
The golden eyed woman sat at the head of the table, the conversations circling around her. She didn't care about the insignificant lives of those who surrounded her, no they were but pawns, drones who mindlessly followed her every whim. The golden eyed woman smiled. It was amusing to hear them talk though. To pretend their petty existence matters in the grand scheme of things. To pretend they will not fall victim in the game of life.
The golden eyed woman's smile sharpened with malicious glee. The game, the game. She liked games. Whether its tag or the Hunger Games. Her nose wrinkled at the thought of that book. The plot was good yes, but the tactics and writing of it was horrible. If she had written, things would have been a lot different.
But the main aspect, well to be perfectly honest, the only aspect of that book she liked was the game. Oh there was nothing greater in the woman's lifetime, nothing more satisfying, than the game of life and death. The game where its players were fighting their own or their companions lives. The game where they know if they don't succeed, it will end in death. Or worse.
Yes, that was what excited the woman. What got her blood pumping and adrenaline rushing. The game was what she lived for.
"Excuse me miss." a voice interrupted her thoughts. It was one of the interns, hoping they would get a job. She snorted. He would be dead within a week, tops.
"Speak." she said .
"We have the sample." he said confidently.
The golden eyed woman grinned with glee. The government did not trust her. A woman like her should be locked up with the key thrown away. But unfortunately for them, they needed her. No one else proceeded with no lack of remorse and mercy like she did. After all she was the organizer of the game.
Each year, the government elects a random sample of youth from all across the world. This time, it was in a place named New Zealand. Small country, no proper recognition and an idiot for a prime minister. They call it a 'social experiment', but the golden eyed woman know they were lying through their teeth.
They lived in fear of the next generation. So the organized the game. No one knew about. Not, of course, until it was too late.
"should we begin." the over ambitious intern said.
"Oh yes." The golden eyed woman drawled. "Let's have some fun."
