Lightening

CRACK!

Alicia burrowed deeper under the covers of her four-poster, hands clasped tightly over her ears. She hated lightening storms – they were one of the few things that could scare her.

Another bright flash of light illuminated the dark room, and a sickly crack, like that of a breaking bone, rang through the girl's ears, swelling her chest with panic. The noise, the commotion, the fear – Alicia felt like a child again.

The door opened quietly. Patricia, one of her roommates, was already asleep (Merlin knows how, in this weather), so Alicia assumed it was just Angelina coming in after flirting shamelessly with Fred Weasley.

CRACK!

Alicia jumped, her heart racing so fast she thought her chest would burst. The storm grew louder, rain and hail slamming against the windows mercilessly. She fought back tears, allowing herself only to whimper.

Shaking slightly, Alicia curled into a ball, clutching her head in her hands. She longed for sleep, but knew as long as the storm kept up, slumber would evade her.

Suddenly, she felt her mattress move as two bodies slipped under the covers next to her. The one on her left, who smelled like soap and mango body lotion, she assumed was Angelina. The one on her right, who grabbed Alicia's tiny hand in her own, she assumed was Katie. Without a word they snuggled down next to her, encasing the petite girl in a fortress of bodies.

Alicia sighed, leaning against Angelina's shoulder. Katie moved in closer, resting her head in the crook of Alicia's neck.

CRACK!

A dangerous-looking fork lit up the sky outside of the window, rattling the room with it's commanding voice. Katie moved in closer, and Angelina held her breath, waiting for the whimpering to begin again. But it never came.

Alicia was already fast asleep.

Short, I know. Review please!!! =)
