I stared up at the rollercoaster looming ahead of me. Only 2 more rounds and it would be our turn. I gulped and tried to back out of the queue but someone grabbed my arm.

'Oh no you don't, you promised.' A voice laughed. I looked up in to the relaxed face of my boyfriend Charles and instantly felt a bit better.

'But Charlie...' I whined, 'you know I hate heights.'

It was my 18th birthday and my boyfriend Charles Leftwitch had decided to be a world class joker and bring me to Disneyland. He knew I hated heights but he had decided that this was how I was going to conquer my fear. I hated him for that. However the rollercoaster he had chosen for our first day had its perks. It was hot, and I mean very hot, out maybe 30 degrees. I was in shorts and a t-shirt and so was Charlie, but the light sheen of sweat was visible over our exposed skin. The coaster he had chosen involved getting soaked in cool water at the very end and I was looking forward to that bit the most. The line surged forwards and my heart jumped in to my throat. We were now at the front of the queue.

'Charlie...' I choked, hardly able to breathe, 'I don't think I can do this...' Charlie looked down at me, his beautiful brown eyes boring deeply in to mine he gave my hand a reassuring squeeze and I relaxed a little. The barrier opened,

'Ready?' He muttered, leading me forwards towards the rickety looking cart.

'As I'll ever be,' I mumbled back.

I climbed in the cart, a bit wobbly on my legs, and Charlie slid in beside me, I was so aware of his hot, bare leg resting against mine, the heat from his skin radiating on to mine, his arm pressed lightly against mine and his shoulder rested just above where mine did, that I wasn't even aware of the bar in front of me lowering until it was resting on my knees. I gulped loudly again and looked at Charlie's tranquil face, panic shown clearly on mine. He took my small hand in his larger sweaty one and kissed the back of it lightly,

'Stop panicking, nothing can hurt you while I'm here silly.' He whispered to me as the long train of carts let out a hiss of compressed air and began rolling forwards and up the first incline.

I couldn't bring myself to look anywhere other than my hands, firmly clenching the metal bar over my legs, so tightly it made my knuckles go white, and Charlie's hand resting lightly over mine. I didn't realise we'd reached the peak of the hill until Charlie gently nudged me, our cart had just rolled over but was not heavy enough to go plunging down. The sight below made my stomach churn, the people below looked like ants and the rest of the park looked like a model village, I felt our cart pull the others over the edge and suddenly...we were plunging down towards the earth. The feeling took my breath away, I felt as though I was flying and I glanced at Charlie with delight on my face, he briefly had time to register the look of joy before we were both drenched in water.

I flicked my wet hair out of my face as the cart rolled to a halt and as the bar lifted I leapt up and grabbed Charlie's hand, barely allowing him time to push back his sopping fringe.

'Haha where's the fire?' He asked as I turned to him, my eyes sparkling with delight.

'Can we go on another?!' I asked and he laughed and pulled me in for a hug, planting a kiss on my smiling lips.

'See, I told you it wasn't that bad.' He laughed as I pulled him off to another queue.
