"Big bro..." The chill of a voice crept over me. It sounds just like my sister. I look around. There's nothing but darkness. "Big bro..." There it is again! That's definitely her! It has to be! I strain myself trying to search for my sister's voice. There's still nothing. I try calling out her name but...my voice won't leave my throat. "Big bro...please...help me"
Ryoushi wakes up and violently jumps up from his futon. He breathing is staggered as he tries to regain his senses after his nightmare. On instinct he searches the futon for the figure of his little sister which should be sleeping next to him. There she is sleeping...soundly...Ryoushi sighed in relief. "So it WAS a dream..." Now that his nerves were calmed he looked over to his cell phone for the time; time for work. He got up from his futon and proceeded to get ready for the day. Once he finished he reached into the fridge for his breakfast that his sweet sister, Kiriko, had made him the night before: 1 riceball. He stuffed it into his pocket and gave his sleeping sister a whispered goodbye before leaving for work.
Another long day at Ryoushi's first part time job. "People could be so cruel nowadays" he sighed as he made his way towards the staff room to get changed. As he walked in he spied his friend: Shiki. Shiki is an upperclass men of Ryoushi's. She's already a second year in highschool. Even so she always payed attention to Ryoushi and helped in every way she could.
"Oh hello Ryoushi!" She said with a smile. "Hey Shiki" he replied. "So how was work today? I hope Uncle didn't' cause any you any trouble" she giggled. Shiki's Uncle was the manager of this electronics shop so that's how Ryoushi got the job."Nah he was fine". By this time Ryoushi had already taken off his apron and was about to head out. "Alright" he started " I'll see you tomorrow them kay Shikihence was waiding for a usual good he when instead he heared Shiki call out his name
"Ryoushi...Have you and Kiriko been alright? Y'know...you should get help from your family". Ryoushi quickly interrupted "I told you Shiki: We can never go back alright? My family hates me so there's no way I can ask them for anything. It's just me and Kiriko now. We're all we have... "
Shiki bowed her head. She knew that so why did she ask? "I know... I'm sorry I brought that up. See you later"
"Yea..." And with that Ryoushi walked out the door. Memories of him leaving home: the home with no one to come to but a drunk mother and memories of a dead father. He remembered the sights of his little sister all alone in a corner staring blankly at the wall with distant eyes while their "mother" constantly flipped the channels of their T.V., completely ignoring what should be her children. Ryoushi's stomach was sick remembering all of this.
"I can't bring Kiriko back there." He whispered to himself "Never again...I won't watch her suffer ever again".
