Cause you were amazing and we did amazing things,
And I wouldn't change it, cause we were amazing things.
The door shut quietly and Diane allowed herself to slide into the chair. She wished it had slammed really. She never cried, she was the Ice Queen after all, but for once she let the tears slide down her face.
The sensation of tears falling down her face only made her cry harder. The last time she had cried, Nikki had kissed her for the first time.
Today Nikki had left her.
No, I really didn't want to end this way.
She always knew that it would end this way; how would Nikki be able to leave her family? Diane knew she couldn't, that's why she didn't pursue it. Yet that afternoon Nikki had kissed her, well it had gone from there, there had really been no choice. Though the whole time, Diane knew deep down that Nikki wasn't really going to leave Doug, no matter what they did together. She was a mum and a wife first and foremost, a lesbian lover second.
As Diane slid down into the couch, she put her head on her arms and sighed. Nikki had left, yet the memories still went around her head. Their first kiss, the first time Nikki had come over to her place. The first time they had had sex, then made love. The sighs during work, the silent glances that meant so many words.
It seemed funny how it had ended today. It had just seemed like any normal day at the start. Yet Nikki had being dealing with a case where the husband had died. The wife had been away for the last 2 days on an affair, covered as a working holiday. Nikki had seen the wife's guilt, and had come to Diane's straight after to end it. There hadn't been a huge argument, it had been simple. Nikki had told Diane what had happened and then told her that it was over. After that she had gotten up, looked back at Diane one last time and then walked out the door.
But the things that seem to bind us,
Are the things we put behind us on this day.
Love. Diane could say that she hadn't been in love very often, but with Nikki she knew what these feelings were from the start. The one thing that had kept them together over the last few months, Diane found was not strong enough to hold them together in the future. Today she was to put it all behind her.
She would go to work tomorrow and Nikki would see what she always had, the hard faced bitch that was P.C Diane Noble. No matter if really, on the inside, Diane was a nervous sobbing wreck, wanting Nikki to take her back. She wouldn't, couldn't show that side of her.
When all you want to do is rock,
But you don't want to bear the shock no more.
When it's just swell that fills your eyes,
Belated feelings that you have denied.
When every wolf is at your door, just like a hundred times before,
But you don't want to leave the end.
