"A crash of drums/A flash of light/My golden coat/Flew out of sight."
"Elly, are you alright?"
Elly blinked twice before focusing on the TV in front of her. "Fine, grandpa."
"You usually sing at this point."
"I want to hear Joseph singing this time." Elly sank even further against her grandpa, whose large body was all around hers. They were watching her favorite movie "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". "Is it dinner time soon?"
"Are you hungry?"
"Sort of."
John let out an amused sigh. "Would you like me to start dinner, princess?"
Elly thought about it. "Yes, please."
John kissed her hair. "Alright." He untangled himself from his granddaughter and went to the kitchen.
Elly soon heard the sounds of a knife chopping things up. Her grandpa always said the best meals included fresh fruits and vegetables. They helped little girls grow big. Elly wanted to grow big and strong like her grandpa. Only…not yet. Right now she was happy to be little with her grandpa to look after her.
The line from before about crashing drums was sung again. Elly had a memory of crashing drums and flashing lights. The crashing drums had sounded more like brick and mortar collapsing. And there was screaming. The flash of light had been her grandpa teleporting her out of…where ever she had been. Elly had a hard time with that bit of the memory. She wondered if Joseph's memory of crashing drums had been like hers. Probably not. They didn't have brick buildings in the Bible. Except for the pyramids but those weren't destroyed by Joseph. Elly pushed those thoughts away and concentrated on the DVD.
"Elly," John eventually called, "It's dinner time."
"But grandpa, it's the best part."
John came in and paused the DVD, freezing the pharaoh in the middle of his dance. "It'll keep until after dinner," he declared.
Elly scrambled into his arms so he could carry her to the kitchen. Her grandpa settled her in her chair before going to his. They bowed their heads to say a short prayer before digging in. "This is good, grandpa," Elly praised.
"I'm glad you think so," John smiled.
Elly ate some more before staring quizzically at her grandpa. "Can I ask a question?"
"You just did, sweet."
"Another one, please."
"Go ahead."
"Why did Joseph forgive his brothers? They weren't very nice to him."
"That's the point, Elly. Forgiveness is about letting go of the hurt you feel because the other person must hurt even worse than you. And no one is above receiving forgiveness."
"Really?"
"Really. Even the Devil could be forgiven if he would remove his pride and asked God for what he needed."
Elly gave a solemn nod. "Grandpa, why is our world like this?"
"Because the Devil finally thought to ask forgiveness. And Heaven and Hell were thrown into chaos."
Elly accepted that answer in the way that small children will. "Can we pick up apples tomorrow, grandpa? I like apples."
"We'll see if we can find some."
A/N: This is becoming a series. Anyway, I"ve been listening to Joseph...Dreamcoat while writing these, hence Elly's favorite movie. Also, the characters from the last story are: The Prince-Nigel, The Alchemist-Nikola, The Wizard-James, The Golden Princess-Ashley, The Shining Knight-Will. Congratulations to Sonea27 for being the only one to get all five right. Well done.
