Part5: The Decrease of Bandits!

To our young hero it sounded so easy.

All he would have to do is meditate and his fighting style would come to him. No late night katas, no repetitive drills and no sensei breeding down your neck correcting your mistakes.

Unfortunately reality was a lot harder.

Oh, it was easy to meditate. It took him a while to get used to because of his endless energy. However in the end it became routine and helped to mellow him out a bit.

It was even easy to find his inner beast. He found the outline on the first try. It went slow at first, but the image became clearer by time. It took him almost a year, but he had it just after his birthday. The image itself was of a large fox. The fur of the beast was a mixture of several shades of red, while the tip of the tail was a pure black. It took him a month to placate the beast, but at last they reached an understanding. The fox would lent Naruto his instincts when Naruto had to fight. Although all this was hard, it wasn't the problem.

What is really the problem, is the fine print he found on the next page.

-Warning: While reaching the inner animal gives you excellent reflexes and a danger sense, your fighting style will only improve with experience.-

'Damn! And here I thought I wouldn't have to do anything else!' Naruto thought 'How can I get experience when I'm not even a ninja yet!'

Mulling it over he decided to find a sparring partner first 'Maybe that will be enough to get me going!' So decided Naruto went to check the training grounds, to look for a decent sparing partner.

While walking by a particular training spot he heard something peculiar "And then if I can't do that, I'm going to run 200 laps around Konoha and if I can't do that I'm going to kick the log 1000 times…"

Walking closer Naruto came to an image that would flush any other attempt at finding a sparring partner down the toilet. There in the clearing stood a grown man and a kid about a year older then him.

It wasn't really the green spandex suit that did it.

It wasn't their huge eyebrows or freaky hairdo that was cause for alarm.

And it wasn't even the hug fest that was the cause.

But all of this combined, with a sunny beach background. While the two said in a kind of voice, that he really wasn't ready for to analyze yet, over and over again.

"Gai-sensei!"

"Lee!"

"Gai-sensei!"

"Lee!"

Let's just say that Naruto's innocent mind couldn't really handle the strain and it shut down.

"Oooh! What happened?" Naruto mumbled while finally coming to.

Looking around himself, he found himself in a few bushes overlooking a now deserted training ground. "What am I doing here?" Thinking harder he came up blank "I know I was looking for a sparring partner and then a huge blank. I do have the strange feeling that it would be better if I would look for another way to refine my martial art skills."

Luckily for Naruto it seems his innocent mind could come up with but one solution for handling the disturbing scene that caused its shut down. In all its wisdom it came to the conclusion that it's host wasn't ready for such an image and deleted it. This is how Naruto escaped remembering a scene that would mentally scar him for life.

This all eventually let Naruto to search for another option. 'So a sparring partner is out. How else would I get any experience?' Naruto thought, while walking past the Hokage tower.

While he was walking there, it just so happened that a genin team had just come back from a C-rank mission.

"Man I can't believe how easy that mission was!" said genin #1.

"Yeah, I know! Just kick a couple of bandits asses and you can say hello to easy cash." said the genin #2 while grinning to his teammate.

"Man, I wish we would go on some harder missions every now and then! All we had to do is stop a few bandits in a neighboring town!" genin #1 complained.

"It stands to reason that a genin team won't be send to any harder missions. Any ninja is capable of easily dispatching a bandit, this way we can gain some easy experience at combat." genin #3 said in a monotone voice.

"I know, I know!" the first genin said exasperated "But could you at least speak with a little more emotion! We have been your teammates for a while now and…"

The rest of the conversation was blocked out by Naruto, who was busy considering what was said 'Bandits? Well they are making the weak suffer. It would be my duty, as a martial artist, to protect the weak. Maybe I should start to help this land and its people by getting rid of them. It would also help me gain some experience in actual combat.'

Having decided Naruto went on regular bandit hunts from then on. Eventually earning him the reputation of the Banditbuster.

Many would whisper the name, while describing a short blond haired man wearing a face mask, who would become the bane of every bandits existence in Fire country. Although he never killed, as is his way, only those foolish enough ever dared to return.

Naruto's martial arts training improved rapidly after his bandit hunts. His fighting style became much more refined over time and his Ki reserves kept growing.

When he started on his hunts he promised himself that he wouldn't quit this exercise until he could easily defeat fifty bandits without being hit even once. He soon found out that this promise would take a while to complete.

It was Naruto's first spot of free time. With school, training and hanging out with his friends, his time was pretty limited. Eventually he found some time in the weekend to develop his fighting style, coincidently he heard some rumors from a couple of villagers about a bandit camp not far from a town near the hidden village of the Leaf.

'From what I heard the towns name is New Leaf village and has been complaining about a bandit problem around their west roads for a few weeks now.' Naruto thought hopping thru the trees 'It mainly happens at night in a heavily forested part of the road. They suspect the camp to be not to far from the actual striking spot.'

It didn't take Naruto long to arrive in the actual village. The New Leaf Village is one of the most recently created trading towns. It lies in a direct road between the Hidden Village of the Leaf and one of the port towns of the continent. This makes it an ideal place for any bandit, with enough balls, to rob a merchant, seeing as there are plenty available to rob.

Surprisingly to Naruto nobody even looks at him strangely when he entered the town 'I wonder what that is all about? Since I made it to this place I haven't been scolded or even been glared at.' looking around himself he thought 'It is like they see me as one of their own.'

This revelation did make Naruto wonder once again why he was so hated in his own village 'It is strange, but I could get used to it. Well no time for that now, got to find some bandits.'

Walking into an alley Naruto discreetly turned himself into a ten year old girl. 'Always easier to get information when I look like this.' he thought.

It didn't take long to get the townspeople to talk, by posing as a merchants daughter. It seemed that all the information that he got in Konoha was correct. The only additional information he caught, was that the mayor has offered a reward for every caught bandit. Not only that but the bandit leader would be worth the reward of an additional ten men.

'Well, not only do I get to train, but I will also earn some extra money.' Naruto thought to himself, while heading to the west gate.

Coincidently Naruto arrived at the probable robbing location just after the sun set 'Perfect! Now all I have to do is walk thru the forest and wait for them to come to me!'

Walking along the forest path it didn't take long for five men to walk out of the bushes "Hehehe! Look at this boys, it's a little kid!" the first bandit laughed.

The second bandit walked towards Naruto with a knife in his hand "Hehe, yeah! Can I gut him Tim?"

The newly revealed Tim said "Sure Bob, but make sure to damage nothing of value!"

While the two bandits were talking Naruto had already taken care of the other three bandits. This didn't take long to be noticed by the other two "Hey! What have you done boy! I would have made your death a quick and painless one, but after what you did to the boys I'll make it slow and painful!" Bob screamed while charging.

To Naruto it looked like the guy was walking in slow motion. It didn't even put a strain on him to knock the guy out.

To Tim however it looked like Naruto was standing ten meters from Bob one moment and the next he was punching him in the gut. Deciding that there was no way he could beat this kid, he made his way back to camp.

Naruto however noticed the last bandit suddenly leaving. Making a quick decision he tied the other four bandits up and followed the obvious trial the last bandit left. It didn't take long for Naruto to arrive at the outskirts of a camp.

Looking around the camp Naruto came to the conclusion that there were about twenty-five bandits, plus whoever is left in the main tent.

Gliding thru the men Naruto didn't even really break a sweat while knocking all the bandits out, that is until he arrived at the main tent.

"What do you mean the men got captured by a kid!"

Obviously Naruto could hear screaming coming from the main tent.

"If you can't even take out a small kid, then I don't have any need for a scumbag like you!" stated the obvious leader of the group "Gerard! Dispose of this piece of thrash outside! I have no need for imbeciles!"

"Hai, Toby-sama!" Gerard said while dragging the other man out of the tent.

Before Naruto's own eyes Gerard slashed of the bandits head and disposed of him in a nearby stream.

"You can come out now!" Gerard demanded while looking at Naruto's hiding spot.

Naruto seeing no other option stepped out of the bushes with a surprised look on his face "Surprised?" the man asked "Don't be! I can't believe those guys got taken out by a punk like you. You can't even hide your own chakra!" if possible Naruto looked even more surprised. Catching the look the man elaborated "Me and the boss were both ninja from Rock. We may only be E-class missing-nin, but I won't be taking out by a piece of shit like you!" the man yelled while charging with his sword.

Naruto didn't really get what the man meant by E-class missing-nin, but he did understand that the man was fast and obviously skilled with a blade.

While Naruto's reflexes are pretty good for a person without ever having had any live combat, he couldn't get out of the mans attacks unharmed. The first attack created a large gash across Naruto's shoulder. It would heal, but it would hurt like a bitch for the first few moments of combat.

Naruto quickly went on the defensive and tried to dodge as much as he could, but unfortunately he got more scrapes and bruises for his troubles. Quickly remembering his teachings he tried to contact his animalistic side.

That was the turning point in the battle. Naruto started dodging more and more. His body was memorizing his opponents movements on an instinctual level. More and more Naruto seemed to get out of the way at the nick of time.

This in turn made his opponent nervous "Why!" he screamed "Why are you suddenly dodging everything! Stand still!"

Naruto, without giving an answer, suddenly came right at the man. He dodge a diagonal slash, went under a horizontal one and brought his fist into the mans stomach.

Gerard bulked under the strength of the blow and promptly passed out with two broken ribs.

Checking his opponent to see if he was really down, Naruto suddenly heard clapping. Quickly Naruto turned around and faced the boss.

"So you are the boy who took out all my men?" the boss said "Most impressive, but I'm not as weak as they were. Come at me boy!" he demanded.

Not one to turn down such an offer Naruto charged the bandit leader, only to get easily side stepped along the way "Sloppy stance boy!" the man dodging yet another punch "It shouldn't be surprising, you must be really tired by now. Not only did you take out all of my bandits, but you received a few heavy injuries from my right-hand man."

Naruto was getting frustrated, the man was dodging every punch or kick he threw at him. Luckily he managed to hang onto his training and kept his cool by using his meditation exercises. To bad he was still getting the snot beaten out of him.

Rushing foreword the bandit leader punched Naruto hard in the gut, making him drop to the ground "You aren't giving up already are you boy?" he said while kicking Naruto while he was on the ground "It was just getting fun!" so said he took out a knife.

Before he reached the boy he suddenly heard the boy laughing "Hehehe! Don't worry yourself bastard!" Naruto said while easily getting to his feet.

The bandit seeing this got nervous all of a sudden "But how? Gerard caused you some heavy wounds. Most people would have already died of blood loss, much less a kid."

Throwing of his jacket Naruto showed perfectly healthy skin "Because I regenerate really fast. All I needed was some time to heal and some time to study your fighting style." getting in a ready position Naruto said "Now, get ready to pay for your crimes!"

Immediately it looked as if the battle had taken a complete 180. The bandit leader was thrown across the clearing. A left hook on his ace, a punch on his chest and a kick in the balls, Naruto did it all.

Finally the bandit dropped to the ground a bloody mass "G-get aw-away de-dem-onn!" he yelled deliriously.

Naruto paid him no mind and gave him one last punch across the face, knocking him out.

Once he was finished with the leader he tied up all the bandits and made his way to the mayors residence. There he received his reward and the legend of the Banditbuster began.

Luckily this fight thought him a couple of valuable lesson. Never underestimate an opponent and expect the unexpected.

It also thought him that his training still had a long way to go.

It took him nine months to improve his skills to a such a degree that Naruto was satisfied. In those nine months he fought countless of bandits and even fought some more missing-nin. After having been told by the Gerard that he was a missing-nin, Naruto had gotten curious. This let to him asking the Hokage what missing-nin are, which got him in a rather tough situation.

"Jiji!" Naruto yelled barging into the Hokage office "What are missing-nin?"

The Hokage looked at Naruto in surprise and confusion "Why do you want to know, Naruto?"

"Because I saw one!" Naruto told the Hokage quickly.

Suddenly the Hokage looked at the young boy gravely "Where did you see a missing-nin, Naruto?"

Now Naruto had to think fast "I saw him at the edge of the forest."

Luckily the Hokage bought his story "Now Naruto, listen up. Missing-nin are dangerous. They are usually trained ninja who defected from their village. Most would do anything for some quick money. So next time run away, okay?"

Glad that he hadn't gotten caught Naruto muttered a quick "Hai, Jiji" and left the office.

Luckily for Naruto the Hokage hadn't searched anything more behind his question, but at least it served Naruto. It made him more cautious when bandit hunting, because trained ninja are a much stronger opponent. Luckily, he hasn't had to fight anything stronger then a D-class yet.

All the experience that Naruto received in combat did increase his martial arts a great deal. It was far from perfect, but Naruto considered himself ready for the next step.

So here he is reading the next chapter in the manual.

-One of the most basic and important skills to have as a martial artist, is the ability to boost your natural skills by using your Ki. After all the training, you have probably done by now, your body should have been unconsciously using Ki to not only make you stronger and faster, but also enhance your reflexes, your hand-eye coordination, your eye speed and your endurance. Although this is a fantastic way to strengthen yourself it is much more helpful to be able to enhance those attributes yourself. For this reason I would advise you to go thru the following training exercise. It is one of the most basic ways to train in this and one of the easiest. Once completed it can be trained to be applied to multiple areas of the body. The technique itself is called the Kachu Tenshin Amaguriken. It is a technique I acquired from a personal friend of mine, it helps you increase the speed of your hands by applying a short burst of Ki. Training for this technique is as followed, make a fire pit, throw some chestnuts in the fire and try to take the nuts out of the fire without getting your hands burned. When you are able to use the technique, try to emulate the effects on other parts of the body. When you are able to increase all your attributes at once, you can power-up so to speak. This means, by using your Ki as a substitute, you can increase your combat abilities multifold.-

'Cool!' Naruto thought 'When I master this technique I will be so much more powerful!'

Being extremely fired up Naruto started to get the necessary training equipment right away.

'Alright I have made a fire pit and I found some chestnuts.' throwing the chestnuts in the fire Naruto began the training.

"Ow!" he cried quickly taking his hand out of the fire. Looking at his hand he sees the multiple burn wounds he sustained rapidly healing "This is going to take some time." he mumbled to himself.

True to word, it did.

Today was his birthday.

He would become eleven. He couldn't wait for his presents. Although, like every year, he wonders who is the one leaving that mysterious birthday present at his front door every year.

Today he was determent to find out, so he went to bed earlier then normal and was up by 4am. Unfortunately for our hero, noting really interesting happened until about 8am. A girl from his class arrived at the door with what seemed to be a present.

Curious he watched the girl approach the door and seeming to argue with herself. Becoming fed up, with her staring at the door, he decided to open it for her.

This caused the unfortunate girl to squeak and cringe into herself.

Blushing horribly by being caught in the act by her crush, it only increased when he seemed to recognize her "You are Hyuuga Hinata, right? From my class?"

Being so embarrassed could cause only one reaction to the poor girl. She fainted.

Poor Naruto just couldn't understand the weird girl who always seems to stare at him.

Ah! To be young and innocent.

It actually surprised me how many people wanted me to continue this. I believe I have even been neglecting a guy who asked for an update for three months now. For this neglect I offer you my humble apologies.
