Confession

Flawless is the memory I have of the night I told you. I remember every last detail. Of course I do though. From the moment I decided to tell you, I kept every second of our interaction imprinted on my memory.

That morning started like any other. We worked on catching Kira, Matsuda screwed something up, and you sat in that annoying way of yours, eating candy and biting your thumb. Everything was going as planned. I mapped out every detail of the day beforehand. You didn't suspect a thing. I doubt you even saw anything different in my behavior: calm and collected as always, not even hinting at what was to come.

At 10:00 as always, everyone else began to head home. All I had left to do was wait. I occupied myself with pointless reading about Kira. Do you know how dull that was for me? After all, I am Kira. There was nothing for me to search for. I had planned everything out from start to finish months ahead. The only thing I hadn't originally planned on was telling you. No matter though. It was not hard to rework this into my original plan.

"Ryuzaki? I have something I need to tell you," I said quietly, turning my chair to face you.

"Please make it brief Light-kun. I am very busy and we must get back to work on the case."

I took no offense to you trying to brush me off. After all you were technically brushing me off for me. Besides, when I was through, you would have no reason left to work.

"I've thought about this for a while now, and I have come to the decision that I must tell you something. Something very important."

"Yes, Light-kun?" You said as you turned toward me. Good. You should give me your undivided attention.

"What I wanted to tell you was... I am Kira," I whispered, not even blinking.

"And why would Light-kun tell me this?" You asked, tilting your head to the side ever so slightly.

The reason is something so simple, I doubt you'd even understand. But still...

"I love you"
