|Prologue|
It was raining the first time I saw him. The droplets of water fell down at a rapid speed, pitter-pattering upon my umbrella as I quickly walked home. It was cold to the point that I could clearly see my breath, and I wanted to get home as soon as possible. It was nearly dark outside, and it fueled urgency in me to return to my haven. I was passing a park when I saw a speck of gold out of the corner of my eye. Glancing over, I saw a young blond man sitting on a bench, wearing flip-flops and a t-shirt. His attire raised my suspicion, for it was early November and quite cold, yet he was not wearing a jacket or holding an umbrella in the less than pleasant weather. Looking some more, I took note that his skin was darkly tanned, as if he was from somewhere the sun never set. Needless to say, he was a curiosity, a splash of color against a bleakly painted canvas.
I finally realized that I had stopped walking completely and was just standing there gawking at him idiotically. But he didn't notice, because he was gazing so far down at his feet that his bangs covered his face. Either that or he just didn't care. Just as I was about to be on my way, his head snapped up and his sky blue eyes locked onto my amethyst ones in a look that was both light and almost chokingly intense. I froze, and I could feel my face heating up from my embarrassment that he saw that I was analyzing him. To my surprise, a slow grin broke across his face, brighter than the sun.
It was as if he cast a spell on me. Before I knew it I was walking towards him. He looked surprised, and that made me all the more bold. He stood up as I neared him, and I saw that he was an inch or two taller. I smiled gently at him before saying, "My house isn't far from here. You're welcome to come and stay until the rain lets up."
If he was surprised before, he was even more so now. Then his face relaxed and he looked down again. "Heh…thanks," he finally said.
"My name is Cecil. Cecil Harvey," I told him. Why I did, I'm not sure. Maybe it's just something about him tugged at my heartstrings. I always did take in strays. I waited to see what he would do, my hand held out for him to shake.
He looked up and smiled again, slightly softer this time. "Tidus," he answered, eyeing my hand a moment before shaking it.
I had no idea at the time that this one act of mine would result in a gigantic change in my life.
