She leaned over the edge watching as her tears slid off the end of her nose and fell down into the inky darkness below.
Why did he have to be such an idiot? Why did she have to love him so much when he doesn't even realize that she was there?
Much more of this and she wouldn't be able to take it anymore. It hurt too bad seeing him with another girl. Maybe she should jump. Just stop all the pain and jump.
"It would make me very sad if you did." A voice spoke behind her.
She started with surprise, turning to see who was there and realizing that she'd spoken her last thoughts out loud.
Her heart lifted briefly as she caught sight of red hair but fell again as she realized that the figure was too short to be him. The Figure stepped more fully into the torchlight.
"Hermione, I never thought that I would live to see you consider doing something so stupid." Before she could recover from her shock and even attempt to reply he continued. "Or would it be unlive? I'm not sure what the word would be. I haven't been dead long enough think out these things"
"Anyway," He grasped Hermione's shoulders, his grip feeling amazingly solid for being a ghost. "So what if my brother's a git? If he can't see what's right in front of his face, he's an idiot. How is that new, really? There are other people in the world. Other people who would be horribly crushed, if you ever did such a monumentally stupid thing.
He shook her gently as he said this then released her. She stumbled feeling woozy and he caught her again "Besides, are you really just going to give him over Lavender? That doesn't sound like the unstoppable force of nature that I f… knew."
Gently, but inexorably he led her away from the tower's edge. "Go knock some sense into him and make him see you."
Hermione was having trouble keeping awake now but she managed to murmur a question before she lost consciousness "Why did you come back? Why did you stop me?"
Fred watched her eyelids close then answered softly "Don't you know? It was always because of you."
