Author's Note: This poem was created for the Official Harry Potter Fanfiction Contest on Gaia Online. The prompt: "Write a poem about a character from Harry Potter! There aren't really any requirements except the following. 1. Do not EVER refer to the character by name. 2. Do NOT have any lines rhyming. (I know, it's weird... but I prefer poetry that doesn't rhyme.) 3. Use alliteration at least once. (Alliteration is when a group of words all begin with the same consonant sound. Example: babbling, bumbling bunch of baboons.) 4. The last line of the poem must be one word that ultimately describes the character.)"
And now, my poem. It should be fairly easy to guess which character it's about.
Concerning Canine Cats
You've heard of dissent dividing dogs and cats
But what of dogs and snakes?
When a canine is a cat, it's quite comparable
Though at times even lions let lie what this hound hunts
And prevent the pup from pranks gone awry
This same stray is saddled with suspicion
When cats are rats, reason is clouded
But in the end everything is evidenced
To reveal the reprehensible rodent's wrongdoing
Mutts might then find a fatherless fawn
Needs a pal with pen and parchment
When home is horrid and school is scarce
Although mothering mustelidae don't approve
Dogs are designed to run unhindered
A life shut indoors seldom satisfies
And danger addicts the adrenaline-starved
A flash and a fall finish this story
The serpent strikes and succeeds
Hitting home where it hurts
And a curtain comes closed on a dog star's stage
Mostly what must be made known
Aside from fervent mourning for this murder
Is that if dogs are cats
Lions are, logically, loyal
But reasonably, they're really
Reckless
