Murder at Midnight

Chapter 1: Death of Freddy McMillan

A billionaire, Freddy McMillan sat in his study, puffing his cigarette furiously. A terrorist gang was after his company and was killing anything that stood in their way. Thirteen of his officers had died by trying to stop the gang while fifty-nine of his officers were injured. Two of his warehouses were blown up which made him even angrier.

The candelabra flickered as a gust of wind blew into the room. The room became dimmer as the middle candle blew out. Freddy turned around the window creaked open and another gust of wind came through, making Freddy cling to his leather jacket tighter. As he looked outside, the stars were in a curious formation. It looked like the devil. Since it was the 13th of October on a Friday afternoon, Freddy was more suspicious that something was going to happen. He didn't believe in superstitions but this evening he felt uneasy.

Freddy took another sip of wine from his glass when he saw something floating inside it. Some one was trying to kill him by poisoning his drink. As the toxic substance went in his mouth, Freddy spat it out. Some one must have been in Freddy's house while he was at work.

Before he could sit back down, needles had appeared on his chair. On one of them was a letter which Freddy pocketed immediately. As he pulled each of the needles out, he sat back down on his chair. He opened his newspaper as a mirror fell of the wall. Freddy turned back to his newspaper when another gust of wind blew through the window, turning Freddy's newspaper page. The page that it turned to was the obituary.

Freddy decided that he didn't want to look through it but when he tried to turn the page, the wind blew it back to the obituary. Freddy decided that he might just as well look through the page. As he scanned down the 'F's' he stopped when he came to his name. 'Freddy McMillan' the newspaper read, '47 years old, blue eyes, yellow hair, billionaire…' Freddy looked back at what he had read and it was the description of him. Then Freddy read how he had died. 'Shot by sniper' Freddy read then realised what would happen.

He got out of seat half a second to late to feel a bullet go through his skull. Freddy slumped back onto the ground as the shadow scurried away as silently as he came. Then he hit the ground with a puddle of blood around his head.
