Okay so inspiration has struck me randomly in the shower (don't ask) and when i got dressed I quickly typed this out. I'm not exactly sure where I'm going with this but I've sort of got a vague idea, that is if people actually like this. If not who knows if I'll have the inspiration to continue this.
Disclaimer: I do not own The Legend of Zelda
Update 4/1/16: I've completely redone the chapter, changing it and adding some stuff in so if you've read this before then I highly suggest rereading it.
Prologue
Loud, piercing wails filled the room as a woman sighs in relief. A man stands next to her dressed in regal clothes with a crown adorning his head. The woman has been fitted with a loose fitting dress and her golden blonde hair sticks to her sweat covered forehead while her crown stays expertly weaved through her hair, not even slightly askew. The woman is clutching the man's hand in a death grip but either the man doesn't notice or does not mind. Around the couple various people move about in a controlled frenzy, all focused on the wailing babe.
One of the women then walked forward with the child in her arms and gently handed the baby over to the woman lying on the bed. The mother of the child gazed upon the healthy baby girl with fondness as the man next to her leaned over with a smile as he gazed at his wife and child happily.
"What are you going to name her?" A man, presumably the doctor that had delivered the baby, asked the new parents.
The new mother looked thoughtful for a while before coming to a conclusion.
"Zelda." She answered firmly, while her husband nodded his head in agreement of the name.
"That is a beautiful name." The doctor responded sincerely. "Fitting for such a beautiful child." The woman gave the man a weary smile while her husband beamed in pride.
Just then, a golden haired boy nervously walked into the room, peering around cautiously at all of the people swarming around. The woman on the bed was the first to notice the boy and smiled warmly at him, beckoning him forward to look at the baby in her arms.
"Do you want to hold her?" The mother questioned, already knowing the answer.
The golden-haired boy nodded his head and she gently placed the baby in the bright-eyed boys waiting arms; he looked down and smiled brightly when the baby girl peeked at him, beautiful blue eyes sparkling in curiosity.
"Now, Link," The father began, getting the boy's attention "As her big brother it's your responsibility to protect her and teach her things that we can't as her parents." He lectured and Link nodded his head in understanding, gazing at his sister who giggled in response.
"I will father." Link promised with determination, looking down at his sister and silently vowing to always care for her and protect her.
The man, satisfied with his son's answer, turned to his wife who was gazing at her children with adoration.
"Do not worry, Link will make a fine older brother my King."
"Yes, I have no doubt about that my Queen. Link is more than capable of protecting his younger sister."
The King and Queen turned their attention to their two children. Link played with Zelda's tiny fingers causing the little girl to giggle bringing a smile to everyone's face. Done with their jobs of assuring that the baby girl was delivered safely, most of the people left the room leaving only the small family and their doctor who was staying to make sure nothing went wrong with mother or child. After all, it has happened before where everything went along as planned until either a mother or a child died not long after the delivery. He would have to assign a nurse to monitor mother and child through the night.
All of a sudden, a guard comes bursting into the room, breaking the tender moment. The wooden door slams against the wall startling the occupants including the newborn baby who began to cry.
"What is going on?" the Queen cried, looking to her husband who then addressed the intruder.
"Why have you suddenly barged in here?!"
"The castle has been invaded! The enemy is on his way here to capture the princess!" The guard spoke out with breathless hysterics looking seconds away from either a panic attack or collapsing.
A look of alarm crossed the father and mother's faces. How could this be? The castle is heavily fortified, no one can get in or out unless approved by the guards. Furthermore, the King had made sure that no one outside of the castle knew about the birth of the princess until after the announcement, and the staff had all pledged not to tell a soul for fear of this exact thing.
"Link, get Zelda out of here" The father yelled to the young boy.
There was no time to waste and he needed to get both of his children along with his wife to safety. The blue-eyed boy took one last look at his mother and father before dashing out of the room all the while clutching his sister to his chest. The King then directed the out of breath soldier to protect Link and get the two to a safe place and as the soldier followed his command, the King called out for the guards stationed outside of the room. He knew what he had to do.
Link ran toward the throne room where he knew there would be a passage to get outside in emergencies like this; his father had drilled into his head that this passageway is to be used for emergencies, not fooling around. Well, from the sounds of panic Link could hear around the castle and the people all rushing past him, this is definitely an emergency. When he reached the abandoned throne room, Link gently placed Zelda down on the throne so he could use his hands to push the heavy chair back. It took all of Link's strength (he's been training a lot lately with the head guardsman) for the boy to be able to reveal the passageway that only the royal family- plus Impa- knows about. With Zelda once more in his arms, Link squeezes through the small gap he had made, only large enough for him and his baby sister to fit through. Hopefully no one will notice the slightly out of place throne and come to investigate. The young golden-haired boy traversed the winding staircase with care, his only source of light the sconces bolted to the wall every few feet. Down here no sound traveled leaving Link in deafening silence, the only sounds being his footsteps and the breathing of him and his sister- who had quieted down now that the loud sounds were gone but was threatening to start back up with the creepy dark closing in.
It was tough to see and dusty from misuse, but somehow Link managed to reach the bottom without slipping and falling to his death. After what seemed like an eternity in the dank passageway, Link reached the end of the staircase only just managing to not trip when he couldn't see that the stairs had ended. Light escaped from underneath the door directly in front of the two children and with great relief, Link managed to shift Zelda enough to be able to grasp the door handle and turn. The aging door opened with a groaning creak, not used to opening after centuries of remaining shut and it took all of Link's strength to be able to pull it open with just one hand. A large forest, filtering the suns brilliance through its canopy, greets the children as Link stepped outside, firmly shutting the door behind him.
For a moment the green-clad boy paused. He does not know where to go as his father had given him no clear direction, only to get Zelda to safety. The young boy gazed around the castle and while he couldn't hear the battle that must be going on inside, he decided not to risk staying in one place. His tutor is always trying to drill common sense into Link's head with his lessons so why not listen to the old man for once.
From his spot in front of the secret entrance, the blue eyed boy sprinted into the nearby woods, running at full speed while trying his best not to jostle Zelda too much. The blonde boy doesn't know much about babies, but he's sure that from the little that he learned while waiting for his baby sister to be born, usually babies are monitored after their birth and he's not sure that Zelda should be put through this situation so soon after her own birth.
Link decided to run until he's far enough away from the castle that he could get help without getting caught by any stray enemy soldiers. After all, that soldier had said that the bad people are after Zelda. So, Link ran for what seemed like hours, adrenaline coursing through his veins. Finally, Link stopped to catch his breath, legs sore and lungs aching. That was when Zelda started to cry, sensing her brother's fear and not liking the spooky forest looming above them.
"Ssh, it's okay" the young prince soothingly hushed the young baby.
Afraid that someone could have heard Zelda's loud wails, Link began running once more. He knows that somewhere beyond these trees there's a small town where they will be able to hide out until their parents come looking for them.
Relief flooded through his body when he saw the river which flowed right outside of the town that he has been to many times with his parents. Link started to slow as he realized that as soon as he crosses the river, he and Zelda will be safe and sound where he hoped the enemy wouldn't think to look for them.
The green-clad boy made his way through the path next to the river when his foot caught in a tree root he had not seen in his exhaustion. He held Zelda close to him, one arm covering her head her head to protect her and twisting his body so that he landed on his side as he falls down.
Link's head collided with a rock causing a large amount of pain to sprout in his head. Dark spots clouded his vision and Link felt that it wouldn't be long until unconsciousness took hold of him. Already, his vision is swimming before his eyes and the pain in his head is all he could feel, but before he blacked out completely the tell-tale pounding of feet meeting the soft earth, shouts of 'look over there', and the loud wails of a baby swirled through his head.
Yes I made Link Zelda's brother cuz I can and I thought it would be cute :P I hope you enjoyed, please review it would help me a lot. Also, if you had any ideas on where I should go with this please feel free to share! (and I'm not just saying that because I don't have any clue on where to go with this;))

P.S. For those of you wondering what happened to the soldier that was assigned to keep Link safe, don't worry I didn't forget about him. The poor man was already out of breath from running across the castle to warn the King of the invasion and unfortunately, Link was too fast for him not to mention that Hyrule currently isn't at war with anyone so the soldiers aren't used to this kind of exertion despite the captain trying his best to keep his men in shape. Since he doesn't know about the secret passage behind the throne he was unable to figure out where Link had gone and people were in too much of a panic to have noticed where he went. Poor man can't catch a break.
