He was nervous, even after seven years he still felt a little scared, not because of what he was going to do, but because he was about to reach a place he thought he'd never go again.
Castle was there, standing in his living room, uncomfortable because he was lost in his thoughts when he should be prepairing himself. He was sweating although the night was cold, he changed his shirt a couple of times, until he decided to serve himself with a shot of whiskey. That seemed to calm him a little bit.
He sat on the couch facing the wall, like he was so anxious that he wouldn't even mind if he was looking at nothing. Then the doorbell ringed. He got up and passed his hands on his tuxedo to make sure everything was perfect.
He opened the door.
"Hi" – Beckett said.
"I'm glad you came" – He replied.
She approached to him and rolled her hands through his collar suit, then she moved up to gently touch his face and kissed him softly. She slipped her hands down on his chest and he wrapped his arms around her.
"Oh my God your heart is racing" – She said.
"That's because I'm terrified... Let's go"
"Yeah"
They kissed again. He took her hand and they left.
She thought she was going to a fancy restaurant because Castle had given her the most beautiful dress she had ever seen and he, well he – she though- was so hot and handsome in that tux. She fixed her gaze on him, while he was driving and she didn't even realise he was not heading to any restaurant.
He stopped the car and got out; he opened the door for her and she stared at him and said:
"Why are we here?"
"No, no, no. You won't ask questions here. I just have to show you something first".
He gently held her hand and guided her inside a place, since it was dark she had no idea where they were. The lights were out so he asked her not to move while he looked for the switch. When the lights turned on she smiled and contemplated the view.
"Remember here?" – He asked.
"Of course".
From the front door until an especific point in the library there was a red carpet filled with petals of roses. The bookshelves were decorated with thousands of flowers. On the center there was a rounded table with something on it, but she couldn't see what it was.
"I've gone through this in my head like a thousand times" - He said, while he made his way through the red carpet. He stopped and said:
"You coming?"
"Yeah"
Beckett started walking on that red carpet; she stopped when she reached the rounded table.
"Right here on this spot you arrested me because you were too stubborn to accept that I was right. And I was too stubborn to keep on diging when you said I should stop. Right here I realised you weren't easy" – He started. She smiled and put down her head, while he continued – "I was used to win all the time, but with you I've learned to be patient. So your line: "are you here to annoy me" turned into "I just want you"".
"Yeah, well, just so you know it wasn't easy for me to be so close to you and not being able to be with you because I was scared".
"Well you don't have to be anymore. Do you trust me?".
"Always"
He took the little box that was on the table and got on one knee.
"So... third time's charm?"
"There's only one way to find out"
