Hi! So I kind of got this idea just today and I wrote it in about an hour so it's not the best, but I was curious as to what it would turn into so here it is.
How did Rapunzel know to kiss Eugene in the tower?
This was out of pure curiosity and I hope you like it! I don't own Tangled.
Rapunzel tugged at his sleeve just as they turned the corner onto another street, this one bustling with carts selling various art pieces. Eugene expected her concern to be something about the paintings, having noticed the walls inside her tower, he assumed she'd be interested.
He turned his head to the side where she was more or less following him, "Hmm?"
She pointed tentatively to a couple sharing a kiss on the side of the road. After one glance, he quickly looked back to Rapunzel, giving the two their deserved privacy. She, on the other hand, looked on with curiosity then looked back to Eugene shortly after. "Why are they kissing? I mean, I kiss my mother, but not like that…"
Eugene's hand went up to his neck where he rubbed it awkwardly. Obviously, she'd never seen anyone kiss like that if she's been cooped up in a tower her life with only a mother as company (the chameleon didn't really count here).
"It's uhh—it's when you…" He paused in thought, at a complete loss of words. Of course he'd kissed his fair share of girls in his lifetime, but they never really meant anything. For a moment, he felt guilty and was disgusted with himself for that. Of course he couldn't explain to her the way he lived his life. That was obviously not a path she would take. Ever. So he started by easing into the subject, "Kisses like those," he motioned, careful not to have her look again, "are for when you love someone in a… special way. I guess you could put it like that." He bit his lip, hoping not to trigger further questions on the matter. Only, the hope was in vain.
"What do you mean 'a special way'?" Her eyes spoke of the most innocence he had probably ever seen. Why it was irking him that she was asking, he didn't really know, but it was irritating none-the-less.
"I—it's complicated. I don't know."
Of course he knew. He knew what love was. The special kind. A very foreign concept to him, but he knew all about it. It had only just dawned upon him recently after spending time with a certain someone who seemed to know nothing about anything worth knowing.
"Well, I know I love my mother. That's in a mother kind of way, right?"
"Yep." He replied passively as he leaned against the wall behind him.
"And I love Pascal, in a friendly way?"
"Mhm."
"And… I love you." She hesitated. Eugene's heart skipped a beat and he felt himself tense up at her tone. He seemed to have hidden his internal heart attack well because she didn't notice, "In a friend way too… right?"
"Ah—yeah sure." He looked down to his hands and blinked a couple of times. Friends. Okay.
When he looked back up she smiled at him and he smiled back.
After a few seconds of unspoken connection, she was the first to be able to drop her gaze. She looked at the floor as if it was more interesting then looked to her right where she spotted a small shop surrounded by paintings.
Instantly, she grabbed his hand and dragged him to the store where they both admired what they saw: she, a painting of a lake and he, a girl with far too much hair and far too wonderful a glow of joy and adventure.
So that's it! I hope you enjoyed
yes I know she didn't get her full answer but I think she kind of took the idea from there. Read and review! (if you'd like)
