"You know why we're here." He growled menacingly as he raised his newly sharpened knife to his eyes. "Your luck ran out the moment we saw you. We found you hiding amongst your brethren. So you thought there was safety in numbers, did you?" His thin lips pulled back in a horrid grin to reveal a vicious set of razor-sharp teeth, a thin line of drool running from the corner of his mouth in anticipation. He'd been waiting for this moment all day.
Oh, yes. He and his co-conspirators had scouted them out, observed them all, determining which was the right one. It had taken long time to find their target, since the description had been painfully vague, but he was pleased to see they'd done it. All that was left was to finish the job!
Beside him, his partner quipped nastily. "We've taken your soul out and we're going to cook it up and have it for dinner. And it's gonna be tasty, too."
Between the two of them, their prey sat uncomfortably on the floor, wondering what he'd ever done to deserve this. Just hours ago, he'd been enjoying Death City's open market, happily sunning himself in the street with his brothers and sisters when these two demons and their witch accomplice swooped down and carried him off without a second thought. They'd brought him back to their lair, laughing and grinning from ear to ear as they sharpened their knives and plotted his demise in disturbing detail.
A sinister giggle behind them was heard, "Do it! Do it now! Hurry it up!"
"All right." With a yell, the owner of the first voice lunged forward, thrusting his knife into their victim's face, and gouged out his eye. His friends roared in laughter, pounding their hands against the floor in excitement, and urged him to do it again. Slash! There went the other eye, flying away from the helpless prey.
Too terrified to cry for help, he could only sit there at the mercy of this awful trio. The monster with the knife took his nose next, prying it out of his face with a leering grin before he passed the knife off to his friend. He gulped, knowing what was next. They would go for his mouth now. They were going to take it away, leaving nothing but a great, big hole behind, maybe some teeth if he was lucky.
Slowly, the one with the knife pricked the corner of his mouth, then the blade began to sink in. This was it! This was the end! He—
"You know what's interesting about Jack-o-Lanterns?"
"Argh! Maka!" Soul cried in dismay. Beside him, Black Star's jaw dropped and slammed the knife he was holding onto the newspaper covered floor. Even Patty looked horrified as she look up from the pile of 'guts' she was poking at. "Did ya have to? We're in the zone here!"
Maka spared the sadistic trio a brief glance, then rolled her eyes. "You guy are torturing a pumpkin! I had to say something. Seriously, guys. Patty and Black Star I get, but even you, Soul? Anyway, hand me those seeds so I can bake them already."
With a loud and very obnoxious sigh, Soul passed the bowl of pumpkin seeds Patty had been poking at to his meister. "Hey, at least we still get the pumpkin soul."
Maka shook her head. "Idiot."
