Rachel stood and stared at the blank patch of earth in front of her. The grass barely covered it so the soil pushed through it in uneven lumps. Rachel's blonde hair wafted in the wind, her pale skin glittering in the tears she was crying.
She looked around her. The other tombstones jutted up from the earth in unwelcome gestures. She didn't know why she had come. The dream, she guessed.
The dream she'd begun to have recently.
She was at this graveyard and she could see everyone.
Cassie's tears that ran down her face in freshets of pain,
Jake's unwilling acceptance and the guilt he felt shown obviously on his face,
Marco's face showing emotions of grief and pain that he always covered up with a joke,
the hologram that gave Erek's eyes were hollow and grief stricken
and Ax stood, unsure of human expressions but still showing grief.
Her family wasn't there and neither was Tobias. They were crowded around the rain-sodden earth and the rain was soaking their clothes to their skin. Their morphing clothes. Rachel would move to the centre of the group and then she would see it.
Rachel lay in the earth and she could see herself. And then she saw why Tobias wasn't there.
A bird, it's feathers matted by rain and mud lay in her arms. There was no coffin and no sevice. There was just a hole in the ground. Jake and Marco threw them in it then and suddenly Rachel wouldn't be the onlooker anymore.
She was in the earth. It filled her lungs, choking the breath out of her.
And then she always woke up.
{Hey, Rach. What are you doing here?} Tobias' voice cut through the memory of her fear.
"Nothing. I was just walking." She expected him to question her further, instead he flutterd to the ground and stared at her with his eternal hawk glare.
{Do you ever think we'll end up here?}
"Everyone has to die sometime." She said, avoiding the question.
{Soon?} Rachel turned and glanced at the ground. It seemed to her that a hole was appearing there. Like the hole in her dream. Her dream. Her premonition. Rachel turned to look up at Tobias.
And with a voice more forceful than it needed to be she said, "No."
