(The lights come back on. We are once again at the market place. Aeris mingles among the merchants and shoppers trying to sell her flowers to many people, but no one buys.)

No light we can see is at the end of the tunnel
No one here to turn to who won't stab and rob you in the end

(Enter Cloud.)

(Surrounding him and offering their goods.)

(With a pushcart full of bread stuffs)

(Wheeling a pushcart full of brightly colored fruit)
Buy an apple or a pair, sun-ripened, and fresh from the tree.
AERIS

PROSTITUTE
(Scantily clad in red)
Come here, soldier boy, the night is young. You look so down and lonely.
AERIS
Just one gil.
MATERIA MERCHANT
(With a green-tinted crystalline ball in each hand)

(With a sword and gun)
Care to buy some weapons I have gathered in my travels 'round the world

(Approaching Cloud slowly)
Hello, kind sir. Now is it too much to ask
For just one gil for any bloom of your choice
Beauty and shade serve to remind of the past
When flowers bloomed
Filled sun-lit rooms
(Music continues to play, but at a softer volume. Other merchants exit.)
Cloud. They are beautiful.
Aeris. And rare, sir. Oh, please buy one.
Cloud. (Laughing a little at her apparent desperation) Alright. (Reaches into his pocket) One gil, did you say?
Aeris. Yes, sir.
Cloud. (Pulling out a small gold coin, a gil, and placing it in her hand. He takes a pink flower from the basket and wraps it in paper and places it in his bag.) Thank you, miss.
Aeris. Thank you, sir. (Exit.)
(Music becomes dramatic and intense.)
Cloud. (Singing) What's that I hear in the night? (Shadowy figures begin to move in behind him) Muffled voices ready to fight? Plotters going over plans.
Shinra Soldier #1. Get him, men! He's AVALANCHE!
(The Shinra Soldiers chase Cloud around the stage. Cloud finds a climbable building and climbs to the top. As the Shinra Soldiers follow, Cloud jumps. The sound of a train is heard as a light moves behind the buildings.)
(Blackout)
