In Love- Forever

She stares at me with those deep green eyes. So beautiful... Green eyes, pale fur, that dainty black paw… I think I'm in love. I look back at her. "Palepaw. I love you.

His eyes always betray his emotion. I search them for any sign of a joke. There is only a deepness in their gray shallowness. He twitches a black ear, then blinks. I see a strange beauty in his scruffiness. "I love you too, Nightpaw. We'll love each other forever."
"Forever." he echoed softly, purring."

We race through the forest, our pelts brushing. I stop, scenting a thrush. I open my mouth to pin point it. She stops and backs away, seeing my concentration. I crouch down and stalk forward. I pounce towards the bird, but something rustles in the underbrush. The bird flies away sqwuaking its alarm call. I turn around, expecting to see Palepaw. It's not her. I back away slowly.

I see him back away with his tail tip twitching. He's telling me to run. Then I see why. It's a dog. And a big one at that. I start running. He hears me, so Nightpaw runs too. He pulls ahead, skimming over the leaves. I feel the dog at my heels. I see Nightpaw leap safely into the tree. I race faster… Suddenly I'm stuck caught in a bramblebush. I yowl.

I look down from the tree, my heart stuck in my throat. She's caught in a bramble bush- and the dog's right behind her. I leap from the tree and barrel the dog over. I pummel his underbelly. He flips over, squishing me into the ground. I struggle for breath and slash out blindly. The dog returns the favor. He leaps for my throat. I feel the warn trickle of sticky blood. Suddenly, the weight is off me.

I backed into a bush to hide from the dog. I watch in horror as it fought Nightpaw. I was about to jump into the fray, when a hunting patrol came. Thistleclaw, Nightpaw's older brother, pounced on the dog and knocked it off Nightpaw. I streak out to Nightpaw's side. He looks horrible. There are small slashes all over his belly, and a gash on his throat. I lean down and press my muzzle into his warm pelt, drawing comfort from the familiar smell. I hear him murmur my name. I look up at him.

"Palepaw, I will love you forever." He whispers as he finally falls still.
