MUGGLE BORN

She was blinded by tears. She was tired but she did not stop. She just wanted to go away. Just wanted to vanish. Then she fell. Everything turned black.

"…she will be okay Headmaster, the wounds were not that deep," the nurse was telling somebody.

"I am very thankful for your services, I don't think Hogwarts could survive without you," the headmaster was saying with his usual charm, "Seems like our patient has come back to her conscious."

He turned towards her hospital bed, the big smile was still there, the smile she wanted to wipe off his face. She was so angry at him.

"Will you please leave us alone , Ms. Figg?" the smile was still there. What did it take to make it go away?

"Yes, headmaster. It won't be a problem," she said taking the medicine tray with her. He looked at her leave.

"So, what was this all about Salina? Why were you in the Forbidden Forest?" his smile was killing her.

"Why are you asking?" she asked.

"I am the headmaster, Salina. I am responsible for all my students," he was still smiling, that smile…that stupid smile.

"Well then you are very irresponsible, Headmaster," she said trying to hide the anger with a laugh. His smile wavered for a second just enough to give her satisfaction.

"So, why were you in the Forbidden Forest?" he enquired again ignoring her comment.

"Oh, might have accidentally gone there while running away from four terrible beasts," she tried the smile, that mocking smile.

"Well just to be informative I can tell you that those four beasts are going to be attending detention for the rest of the term," The smile had recovered fully with more intensity than ever before. Why won't it just vanish?

"Well someone had to take matters into their hands, especially since you do not do anything of the sort," he was not smiling anymore.

"You know so well that if anybody without power said as much as a word to Malfoy, his father is going to get him or her expelled in a night. Especially me, somebody who is nothing more than a mudblood to them," by now she was so angry that she had started shouting.

"What I would love to know Salina is that why are you so upset about your bloodline?"

"You are the one to talk. When has anybody ever mocked you for being out of wizarding bloodlines? When has your own family looked at you with fear? When have you ever been so confused about where you belonged when everyone thinks of you as a freak?," she did not know why she was repeating the questions she had only asked herself to somebody who she had known so little, but she could not stop now, "When have you been betrayed by every friend of yours? When has somebody treated you as a lab experiment? I have had enough of the mocking these 5 years now I cannot bear it, I will be very grateful if you would arrange a train ticket for me so I could go home tomorrow."

"Go home to become a lab experiment again," he said thoughtfully, "You surely know that you still do not know how to control your magical abilities. Hogwarts can help you in so many ways, Salina."

He was true but she could not admit it, "And how exactly is Hogwarts better when I am treated the same as I would be there?"

"I know Salina how hard it can be to be the only wizard to ever have come out of the Muggles, but what you do not see is that you have an advantage that no wizard or muggle has. Even though you do not belong anywhere you are the only one who can fit into both the worlds."

She could understand what he was saying but she felt like something was missing.

"I can see that I am getting through to you and I hope you change your mind as I can tell you that Hogwarts can do better with one you than fifty Malfoys."

There it was the missing part. Now she understood completely.

"The teachers have talked so much about you and your achievements with me. And, just so you can know, I think someone is kind of interested in you," he pointed at the far hospital bed which was occupied by a boy with jet black hair.

She laughed, so that was where the notes were coming, she thought Malfoy was trying to be funny. So people saw her as more than a muggle born. She felt much better. Now she knew what the headmaster meant when he said that she would fit right in and be the special one. All these years she had been angry that he had given her false hope when it was her own fault.

"But I would mention that I am disappointed that you never fought back."

"With whom?" she was confused.

"With us," he said.

"Why?" she was more confused than ever.

"As you can see that wizarding world is changing fast. Soon the wizards will no longer want to remain hidden from people that are weaker than them, they would want revenge."

"Why are you telling me this?"

"You are our hope and you are the perfect person to change us," he was serious, "I have worried you enough today Salina come to my office tomorrow we will discuss further issues then."

He got up.

She understood no. this was no time for her to leave she had to help the headmaster in stopping this change. She was tired now, tired of always being angry, of always being quiet. She would rise now, she would tell that stupid Malfoy and everyone how the only muggle born in the whole universe was going to stop this nonsense. She promised herself that she would not rest until this was done.

"See you tomorrow, Professor Longbottom," she said to the departing headmaster.

He smiled, but it did not hurt anymore.
