Manny isn't sure of when she knew she loved her husband.
At 26, she would say she has a bizarre memory. She remembers the entire conversation that she, JT and Emma had when they met at the playground at the age of three. She remembers the exact date that Emma slept over her house for the first time in kindergarten - October 14, 1994. She even remembers the first day she ever saw the love of her life when she was thirteen, and what they were wearing. But she can't remember the really big things, like when she realized he was the only one for her. She likes to write this off as she's always loved him, even before they met. She dreamt of him when she was a little girl. She didn't know who he was yet, and she couldn't see his face, but she knew he was her prince - and someday, her prince would come.
Molly, their five year old daughter, often asks if she knows when she fell in Daddy. She shrugs, not knowing how to explain her belief that her love has been there her whole life. Molly usually replies with, "But Auntie Emma knows how she fell in love with Uncle Sean!" Manny laughs, knowing Emma has the worst memory in the world. But she wonders the answer to the question just as much as her daughter does. Was there a time she didn't love him? No way, she tells herself, even though she knows well how false that is. There was a time she hated him - to a point where she'd start crying just thinking about him. But she was young, time went by and she grew up; she officially let go of those past feelings of hatred when she knew he'd never break her heart again. Now when she looks back at when he hurt her, it seems less bitter and upsetting than it was at the time. She thinks love can do that to you. It changes your life so much, that you make the bad times seem like they were halfway decent.
Unlike Manny, her husband has his moment. He remembers every last detail about the second he knew he loved her. He says that she was the first person to ever make him feel anything. He didn't have a perfect life growing up, and it caused him to be somewhat cold. He was sixteen and he had done nothing but reject love. But that winter, as he nearly broke down to Manny in the hallway of Degrassi, he was thrown onto a rollercoaster of emotions. The two of them agree that it's one of their most painful memories, because it wasn't at all filled with happiness and smiles. Through this, he still says he didn't know he could feel so much love and passion for one person until that one moment. It changed everything for him.
She envies him for this. Even if it's not one of their best times, at least he remembers. Maybe it makes her a bad wife for not remembering. Maybe she's a bad mother too. Emma laughs at her when she mentions it. "That's ridiculous, Manny. It's been so long for you guys; how could you remember?"
Emma's words make a lot of sense to her. She realizes she shouldn't worry so much about it. Regardless, he was everything to her. They had a perfect marriage and a beautiful daughter. So what if she can't remember a specific moment? She didn't have to. She knew one thing, and it was something she'd known for a very long time.
Manny was truly, madly, unconditionally in love with Craig Manning - and she always and forever will be.
