Earthshock
The sky of Mars a dusty red,
The sky of Earth is blue.
The gravity, it weighs her down,
Feet and legs like glue.
…
The sun is larger in the sky,
It's yellow, and more bright.
Her skin, it burns, while her eyes squint,
So constant is the light.
…
Sirens, broadcasts in her ears,
The rustling of the leaves.
Warmer, thicker, is the air,
That's carried on Earth's breeze.
…
A city far as eye can see,
O'er their garden, Earthers paved.
Still, she seeks to see the sea,
Ears search for sound of waves.
…
Passes through Earth's underbelly,
Sees throngs of humanity.
30 billion on this world,
But where oh where's the sea?
…
A doctor and a storm drain later,
She passes the sea wall.
A testament to this world's straits,
Against storm surge standing tall.
…
But on it, her eyes, they do linger,
The ocean she beholds.
Watcher stretching to horizon,
Under a sun so gold.
…
The ocean's smell assaults her,
Salt, along with waste.
A dumping ground for Earthers,
For whom their world has no more space.
…
Everything that Martens said,
And yet also so much more.
So she sits down upon the sand,
Gone are any thoughts of war.
…
Soon or late, Martians will find her,
Soon from Earth she'll be far.
But for now, she's by the ocean,
Under light of golden star.
