He wasn't jealous. He swears he isn't jealous. Matthew saw how Matt got attention, how he got remembered. All Matthew got was being forgotten yesterday his own parents. Matthew proceeded to stomp around his room in an uncharacteristically angry way. His stomping scared Kumajirou. The small bear hid under the bed from its owner, afraid of getting stomped on. Matthew just didn't understand. How did he get attention and he didn't? What was the quieter Canadian doing wrong?
"Chickadee? Are you ok?"Matthew jumped in response.
"Oh! Matt I didn't know you were here." He nervously fiddled with his fingers. Matthew looked down at the ground in shame. He shouldn't be jealous, he should be glad, happy, that he doesn't have to go through this.
"What's wrong? Your not usually like this." His opposite looked at him worriedly. Matthew continued to look away from him.
"It's nothing. I'm just being selfish." Matt quick took his hand and reassuringly stroked it.
"It's okay to be selfish sometimes Matthew." He paused and looked into Matthew's eyes. "Why do you think your selfish?"
He seriously looked at his counterpart. True concern in his eyes.
"I-I..."
"Please, Matthew." His guilt overwhelmed him. Matthew found himself crying silent tears.
"I-I'm sorry... I was jealous of all the things you had. Everyone remembers you. I'm always forgotten. Am I really that pitiful?" Matt jerked away in surprise. His features that were usually hard, softened.
"Matthew, come here." His arms outstretched to the small Canadian man. Matthew willingly took his offer. It was awhile before Matthew completely calmed down. Matt sat patiently and whispered reassuring words into his ears.
"Matthew, lots of people forget. They always forget the most important things."
Matthew felt a little happier.
