Strong, Tall, a Hero…everything any other girl would want. But not Selena. No, she was not one to go for the heroes. In fact, she thoroughly disliked heroes. They were so full of themselves. All they cared about was their image. Not once did they give a second look to their people.
Selena's only reason for seeming this man was for her people. Selena's father had made an alliance with the king of Alagesia. In order to join the two kingdoms together by marriage, If the alliance was broken it would mean a devastating war. Ridaistira didn't need another war. They had just ended one with the Urgals. Selena sighed. Sometimes she wished she didn't have all these duties.
Just then someone knocked on her door, then entered. It was her father. "It's time to go." He said. "If we are lucky we can make it before dark" he said hopefully. "Yes father." Selena said. Maybe she should tell him she didn't want to go. No, he wouldn't understand. He would probably start worrying, thinking she was ill.
"Selena is there something wrong?" he asked. He was starting to think this wasn't the best of ideas. "No, I'm fine." She replied. "Then let us be of. We don't want to be late." He said trying to act excited. As they left the room an awkward silence was carried between them. Any small talk was answered in yes or no answers. By the time they got to their carriage, it was so uncomfortable, Selena's mother started to get nervous. "Would they act like this in front of their friends?" Dynatia thought.
This might be Selena's only chance at marriage. She knew Selena didn't like men who were very well known. Dynatia had felt that way until she had met her husband. She hoped this young man might be different. Dynatia had heard of his kindness. That he only looked out for his people and not himself. Her thoughts were interrupted by the carriage suddenly jolting to a stop. "We're here at last." She said trying to break the silence. Apparently it worked. King Rhakros hopped up and smoothed his robes.
Just then, another man came out of the castle. At his sides were two other men. King Ildos was coming towards the carriage. Selena sighed. This was going to take a while. She couldn't wait to leave. Suddenly her eyes caught the two men at the king's side. They didn't look like him but they were definitely handsome. Suddenly she was aware of her appearance. She straightened her braid and crown while smoothing her dress. Dynatia looked at her inquisitively. Maybe this wasn't going to be so bad after all.
