Chapter 1 : The Contest

My blood ran cold

With the fiery of your eyes.

It burns a hole through my soul

With every glance.

The dead arise and walk free

From their eternal rest

With every touch of your welcoming arms.

The darkness consumes

Not letting the light resume.

Shadows on the wall of the tomb

Dance in between the light of the pale white moon.

Breath unto breath

Death unto death

And dust unto dust until we meet again.

SHE SLOWLY READ EACH LINE OVER AGAIN BEFORE SHE BECAME SATISFIED with how it sounded. This was her only chance to enter the contest on the website for the poem which could win her a life time opportunity to meet the lead-singer of any band of her choosing. Nikki was a huge fan of rock bands whether they were Green Day, Disturbed, Korn or even Puddle of Mudd. But she has always wanted to meet Chester Bennington from Linkin Park.

With a clear image in her mind of Chester's beautiful smile greeting her as she opens the door after they proclaim her the winner, she logged onto the web page for the contest. In the space provided for the entry, Nikki copied her poem very carefully and when she was done, she studied her work one last time. "Well, its as good as its ever going to get," she thought as her hand moved the mouse so the arrow was over the SUBMIT button.

She said a silent prayer and then clicked the button, watching her words fade into the words, 'Thank you for your submission.'

Nikki let out a breath, not realizing she was holding it the entire time. The contest would be up tomorrow and then they would choose the winner in about a months time. The torture for her will be the waiting because to Nikki, waiting meant that she would forget about her dream date with Chester as soon as school starts.

It was her Senior year of college and she will be consumed with papers that will be ten pages long of research. Something she is not looking forward to be doing. Plus she is planning on making every moment count with her friends, not knowing where they might end up after graduation. This year was huge and if Nikki wins this contest, it might be great in some ways but it could very well cost her a failing grade or two. But in Nikki's heart, she would never pass up an opportunity to go out on a date with Chester for any failing grade. She just wishes that she could know if she won before the school year begins and not in the middle of the chaos.

Before she went to bed that night, it dawned on her that she was just going on a date with the lead-singer and not on a two month engagement with him. It was only one day of freedom from her studies and with that in mind, she fell into a deep relaxing sleep. Thoughts filled her mind as she dreamt of Chester walking along side her on a white sandy beach.
