A/N: Just a little Byakuya/Hisana drabble. I think Byakuya might be a little OOC... sorry about that. It wasn't intentional. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it!
Sometimes, he still sees her when he dreams.
Some nights, he remembers her the way she once was, before the illness stole her strength. They would take long walks through the manor's expansive gardens, enjoying the warmth of those days when spring was in full bloom and the quiet pleasure of each other's company.
Other times, he can feel her beneath him; her lithe frame bare and beautiful before him. He holds her closely, slowly running his hands across smooth, porcelain skin. Dipping his head, he presses his mouth against her soft lips, kissing her deeply as their bodies move in time, hidden amongst the shadows of the night. Never one to speak of his emotions, he knows of no better way to convey the depth of his feelings for her.
Even after all these years, he still remembers the way she tastes.
Once in a while, his mind takes him back to that fateful spring day. He holds her cold hand tightly, lest any slack in his grip cause her to slip away. She turns to him with sad eyes and asks him to find the sister she abandoned so long ago and to care for her as he would his own blood. She apologizes for not loving him more and it breaks his heart.
That year, she never sees the sakura she so loves blossom.
On those mornings, he lingers in bed, just a little longer than he knows he should. He has duties, obligations to which he must attend, but he just cannot bring himself to move. He dares not open his eyes. Opening them means leaving the sanctuary of his mind and yielding to the stark reality left in its place. She is gone and he is alone.
Sometimes, he wishes he never had to wake up.
