Heart, Don't Fail Me Now
By Emily Bennett
Chapter One
Author's Note: Alright this is my first Lucian fanfic so please don't flame... What if the Pevensies all stayed at the end of Prince Caspian? Well this is obviously Alternate Universe (AU) and this takes place after the Dawn Treader (No, Eustace is not here, this is AU). Lucy is 16, Edmund is 17, Susan and Caspian are 18, Peter is 19. The title is part of a song from the Disney animated film, Anastasia, so I think that's it.

Lucy sat at the window. She looked down at the ocean. It was so beautiful. She was really searching for something on the horizon. The Dawn Treader, the ship her brothers and dearest friends Caspian and Reepicheep were on was coming home! She had not been permitted to go, even though Caspian and Edmund took her side, Peter simply would not allow it. She had said goodbye to all three kings, and then given the noble Mouse, Reepicheep, a hug. This of course embabarassed him, but he accepted it gallantly nonetheless.
Reepicheep had hoped to stay at the end of the world to find Aslan's Country, so she tried not to expect that Reep would ever come back. But it was so hard as Reepicheep was a noble companion. Lucy concentrated on the ocean, until the sun was setting. She started to turn away, but she saw a small speck. She looked closer as the speck was getting bigger. Lucy recognized it. It was the Dawn Treader!
She rushed outside to the dock. She waited as the ship came in and docked. Peter was the first one off the ship, with Edmund and Caspian right behind him. She rushed up and hugged her oldest brother. Then she hugged her other brother, and after Edmund her best friend, Caspian. She heard a very feminine 'ahem'. She turned and saw a girl with hair that was the exact color of gold, and eyes that were as deep a blue as the midnight skies. She looked like an older version of Lucy. Lucy extended her hand. "Hello, I'm Queen Lucy."
"Erecos. Pleasure."
Lucy didn't like this girl. She sent a look to Edmund, who asked, "Caspian, can we talk to you?"
"In private," Lucy added to Erecos, who was looking at Caspian.
Caspian nodded and followed Lucy and Edmund to a small room in a tower.
"Caspian, who was that?" Lucy asked
"Er, well, Erecos."
"I know that. Who is she and why is she here?" Lucy insisted.
"She's a star's daughter. And she's competing for my hand. Alright, Lu?" Caspian asked
"Caspian," Edmund warned, "I don't trust her."
"Neither do I, She reminds me of Jadis."
"Does she Lu? Because that's who she reminds me of as well."
"Well she isn't Jadis. She's not a witch," Caspian told them, then he stormed out of the room.
"Ed, what are we going to do?" Lucy asked.
"I have an idea, Lu. But you might not like it. I noticed Erecos looks like you, except older. But she acts like a spoiled brat. So if you compete for Caspian's hand, he'll see how rotten she is."
"Yes, but two things. One, Caspian obviously fancies her quite a bit, it will be very challenging. Two, what if he falls in love with me? I don't love him like that. I love him as a brother."
"It's a risk we must take, if he falls for you, you might have to break his heart. But we need to get him away from Erecos, I think he's bewitched by her. She's a star's daugher, she must have magic in her veins, so strictly speaking, she could be a witch."
"I do hope this works, Edmund."
"So do I Lucy."
Author's Note: What is Lucy going to do? I Wonder... this'll probably be like Failure To Launch but I'm not sure... well I should go...
