Caroline Forbes slowly opened her eyes to a stuffed bunny sitting on the pillow that rightfully belonged to Stefan Salvatore. The fuzzy creature held an envelope between it's chin and sewn together hands. She reached for it; pulling the stuffed animal to her chest she took a folded piece of paper out of the envelope.
"Goodmorning, beautiful. It's Easter! Do you know what that means? It's time for an Easter egg hunt. There is a basket on the nightstand and a trail of eggs leading to yours truly. So, get dressed and come find me. Ps. You'll be done in plenty of time to make it to your Easter brunch. Love, Stefan."
Caroline smiled at down at the paper. Giving the bunny one last squeeze she threw off the covers and headed over to the closet. She had her Easter outfit planned since Christmas. The blonde put on her baby blue dress and matching shoes. She quickly pinned up a few strands of her curly hair. After looking in the mirror one last time she grabbed the basket and headed out of her room.
On the small table in the hallway she spotted a poorly hidden egg. She broke open the plastic egg to find a long strip of paper.
"Congratulations, you found egg #1. They're not all going to be as easy to find as this one."
She giggled to herself as she walked into the kitchen and found another egg hidden in the sugar bowl.
Inside this egg was a single pink jelly bean, her favorite, and another strip of paper. "You're as sweet as sugar. This is egg #2. Don't worry, only 12 more to go."
She put the jelly bean in her mouth and the egg in her basket. It had been a long time since she had been on an egg hunt, and her eyes sparkled with excitement as she went in search of egg number three.
Eggs three and four were found right outside the backdoor of the Salvatore Boarding house. Egg three only held a tiny slip of paper confirming that it was indeed egg three. However, egg four had a blue jelly bean, Stefan's favorite. When she found egg five and six she noticed the pattern. Every even egg held a surprise. This time it was in the form of a chocolate coin.
Caroline skipped around the yard gathering up her eggs and filling her basket. When she came to an even egg she'd smile in anticipation of what was waiting inside for her. The eggs lead her to the garden she and Stefan put in last spring. It was a circle of flowers with a stone path and a bench. She found the thirteenth egg sitting in the middle of a flowerpot.
"Only one more to go, but where is it? Hint: turn around." Caroline read from the piece of paper.
Slowly she turned to find her last egg in the hands of Stefan Salvatore. Butterflies formed in her stomach at the sight of him kneeling in front of her.
"Caroline Forbes, will you marry me?" he asked breaking the plastic egg in half to reveal a silver diamond ring.
Tears sprung to her eyes as she nodded, speechless.
Stefan stood up and wrapped her in a hug.
"Yes, yes." she finally said finding her words.
Stefan pulled away and placed the ring on her finger. They smiled at each other, knowing that this was the start of forever.
