Very short fanfic about why Harry chose the name for his second son. Again, I don't own Harry Potter, just love writing about the characters.
The Naming of Albus Severus Potter.
I called my second son Albus Severus Potter. During Ginny's pregnancy we had been thinking of names. We knew it was a boy, so Ginny liked names taken from supernovas. She had always liked astronomy at school. She drew up a list of name she liked and hung it on the fridge door.
Names
Berenices.
Lynx.
Simeis.
Peruses.
I however, found these name a bit weird, and wanted a simpler name for our second son. I liked the idea of using names from people we already knew, we had called our first son James Sirius, after my dad and my godfather. Ginny loved the idea at the time, and allowed me to commemorate the people I loved through my son's name.
She was more reluctant to do this again, but wanted a magnificent name for our next son. For a while I had been toying with the idea of using our Headmaster's name, but he had so many names it was difficult to know which one to choose!
But, the moment I was handed my second son I knew. He had my mother's eyes, but they had the same piercing quality I first experienced with Professor Dumbledore. I knew he had to be called Albus. I looked at Ginny, led in the hospital bed with pleading eyes.
"I know. " She said. "He's an Albus. It's the eyes. Harry, we have to call him Albus."
I automatically agreed- it was just what I'd hoped for. We were able to take Albus home the next day. Whilst at home, Albus began to develop character traits I'd only ever seen one man display.
He was an incredibly brave child, at an extremely young age. He also carried with him an air of haughtiness, and stubbornness. He was just like Snape. The good side of Snape. The Snape who loved my mother for years, and protected me. The man who spied on Voldemort at great risk to his own personal safety. The bravest man I knew.
Thinking of all that, I knew that Severus Snape more that deserved to be commemorated. I wanted people to hear my son's name, and think of the courageous man only few knew him to be. The Headmaster, who protected the students of Hogwarts, to the best of his ability, and kept them out of the hands of the Dark Lord.
Emotions rushed through me as I thought of all Snape had done. He killed Dumbledore, saving the Headmaster from unnecessary pain and humiliation. He saved Draco from killing someone; he knew that it would be on Draco's conscience forever. He truly was a great man.
This was the least I could do for Severus Snape. His death truly saddened me.
It's empty in the valley of your heart.
The sun, it rises slowly as you walk.
Away from all the fears,
And all the faults you've left behind.
So I knew my son's name. He had to be Albus Severus. It was my testimony to the two men, who worked tirelessly to protect me.
