Petra glided through the forest alone. Levi had gone with the rest of the squad to try and defeat the Female Titan after what she had done to Gunter. She was ordered to stay back and resupply, against her wishes, and the regroup. It wasn't hard to find the other members of her squad; she just had to follow the sound of clashing blades and yelling.

Then she flew past Gunther. His neck slashed open like cheap beef and the rest of his body hanging languid and lifeless from the tree. For a split second they looked into each other's eyes and Petra mouthed "you fought well" at Gunther's dangling corpse as she continued on.

Please just let Gunther be the only one...please.

The sounds of battle drew closer and closer with every passing minute and Petra's mental prayers grew more and more like begging. Then she heard Levi scream out above the noise.

"Eldo!"

Her heart rate quickened and her hand squeezed a death-grip on the gas trigger. Petra sped through the forest at full speed. It had only been a few moments when Aurou could be heard through the dense forest.

"Levi Hechou! We need to regroup! HECHOU, NOW!"

A heavy thud penetrated the surrounding trees and Petra's heart jumped out of her chest when her eyes caught on something laying in the grass. She looked down at Eldo, who was discarded as trash exactly as Gunter. the two halves of his body lay a few feet apart. a sound like shattering glass rang out moments before another deafening thud. Aurou. His body lay broken and contorted on the grass. A knot closed so tightly in Petra's throat that a small squeak escaped.

Gunter, Eldo, Aurou...that means-

Levi. Bent against a tree in front of her was humanity's strongest. Tears poured down Petra's cheeks as she stared into her former lover's eyes. But right now she couldn't grieve. She had a mission to focus on...and at the moment she had to go protect Eren.

"Just abandon the bodies," Petra's tone was cold and flat, her face was expressionless, and her eyes were looking straight ahead...but on the inside she was breaking down, "many bodies haven't made it back in the past. what makes these guys so special?"

'What makes these guys so special?' I didn't just say that. Levi is in that pile and I called him worthless!

Petra took a few deep breaths and watched Levi die a second time as his corpse fell off the back of the wagon.

That night Petra rode up to her house. She tied her horse out front and knocked on the door. She was patting her horse's neck when her father opened the door; a smile spread across his face when he saw his daughter.

"Petra! Please come in!"

Her father pulled her cloak off and sat her down in a chair at the table. she immediately got up and ran over to her father and slumped into a bear hug. He wrapped his arms around his crying daughter and held her tightly.

"Levi's gone, dad. The whole damn squad is dead! It's just me now, dad," Petra sobbed.

Petra sat in Levi's bedroom on his bed. Shed had locked herself inside since returned form her father's house. Despite everyone's attempts to talk to her or get her to unlock the door, she would move from his bed. Petra tangled herself up in his silk sheets where they had spent countless nights together. The pillow was soaked through with her seemingly-endless tears...but she pulled herself up and walked over to his mirror. Her auburn hair was matted and here eyes were red and puffy. She pulled his cloak off of the chair. Since Levi had no family it went to Petra, and she held it in her arms like a baby.

"I will fight. I will for you, Levi. I will become humanity's strongest soldier. I will continue to fight on, Levi."

For you, for Gunter, for Aurou, and for Eldo.
