Outtake: Outside the Restaurant

Jake's POV

I didn't want to come with my dad to this dinner, but he begged me to come with him, so I had no choice. I knew Bella would be unhappy to see me. Once we were at the restaurant we waited for Charlie and Sue arrive. I wanted to take Renata with but my dad told me no.

I had tried to move on, but I was still hooked on Bella. Right before Charlie and Sue got here, Edward and Bella arrived. They were hand and hand. When Bella saw me, she gave me a look that could kill. Edward held Bella back and told her not to ruin her dad's day.

He took her to their seats. I couldn't wait for the dinner to be over. I was already regretting showing up tonight. I could tell she was trying not to look at me.

As everyone else was finishing dinner, I looked up and saw Bella stand up and walk outside, so I thought I could go out and try to talk to her.

As I walked out, I saw Bella seated on the bench with her face in her hands. I walked over to her, and she didn't look up at me at first. I placed a hand on her shoulder, and she jumped.

"What the hell, Jake?" she asked.

"I saw you walking out, so I thought I would come out and talk to you," I answered, trying to hug her.

"Just stop. It's not gonna happen," she retorted.

"You know I have been trying to get with you before you were with Tyler, " I responded.

"You haven't been there for me since everything happened," she cried.

"I was trying to talk to you, but you wouldn't answer me," I reassured her.

"Leave me alone. Go," she snapped.

"I am trying to keep you from getting hurt," I mumbled, as I walked away from her.

I turned around to look at her. She was crying now. I walked back to her. Bella was my best friend, and I wanted to comfort her. I couldn't stand seeing her like this. I took the seat next to her and let her cry.

"I thought I told you to go," she yelled.

"I can't let my best friend be upset," I muttered.

"Where were you when I got beaten up?" she cried, looking down.

"You know I had plans, and I did warn you about him," I said.

She didn't look up at me, so I lifted her chin with my finger, but she moved my hand.

"Leave me alone. I'm with Edward," she barked at me.

Without saying another word, I stood up and walked into the restaurant. Wow, she sure has changed. That's not the Bella I knew.

I didn't turn around this time. I just went back and took my seat. My dad could tell that I wasn't happy. Now I really wished I hadn't come along.

I whispered to my dad, "See why I didn't want to come with?"

He told me, "Just be nice for Charlie."

A few minutes later, Bella came back and whispered to Edward, "Let's go. I want to go."

I knew it was because of me. My dad looked at me with a look. "It was because of what I told her outside."

I knew I had probably lost a best friend.
