When I Look to the Sky

Garcia knew, of course. She always knew. And she hardly ever yelled at him, either, even-especially-when he deserved it.

And she was waiting for him when they got back from LA. Oh, she greeted everyone, gave JJ a hug, but quickly and surely she culled him from the herd.

They were alone in the office she had gotten set up for him. And she gave him a hug, way bigger then the one JJ had gotten.

"Sweetie," she said into his ear. "If you ever pull something that dumb again, going after a bad guy without backup, I will hurt you myself."

He chuckled into her hair. She'd used the same shampoo for three years now, a mixture of cherry blossom and rose. "I didn't have a choice."

She punched his back with a halfhearted fist.

"Ouch! Baby, what'd I ever do to you?"

"Alphabetically or chronologically?"

"Neither."

He pulled back to look at her. She had soft, dewy eyes. And they were mere inches from his.

"Hey," he whispered.

"Hey," she whispered back.

"Missed you."

"You too."

Derek Morgan usually had self-control. He never went after another man's woman. That was worse then poaching.

Garcia was another man's woman, and even if he didn't like Lynch he respected that part of the code of being a guy.

He leaned down and kissed Garcia on the mouth. Slowly. It was very wrong but felt very right. And she wasn't saying no.

She rubbed the part of his back where she'd smacked him after they'd pulled apart.

And looked at him hard. "You need a break."

"I keep thinking about Ellie."

"Yeah."

"She doesn't have any family left. That sonofabitch killed her whole family." "Actually, her mother's parents are alive. I checked-they're good people, Derek. In San Diego. She'll be okay."

"Does anyone ever get over that?"

"Did you, when you're father died?"

"It took forever, I guess. Still hurts. But this was her father killed in front of her, both grandparents. Her auntie."

She was nodding. "All Ellie can do is go forward, just like all of us. But she can, because she doesn't have to spend her whole life looking over her shoulder for that bastard. Because you shot him, Derek."

"I hope self-defense flies with IA."

"Hotch is a lawyer. He's got you covered."

"That's what he told me."

"Then no worries."

"Garcia?"

"Yes, baby boy?"

"If I took you out to dinner, would Lynch kill me?"

"No."

He looked down at her, trying to not profile her but doing it anyway. "Things okay with you two?"

"None of your beeswax at this time, Derek," she told him pertly. Her handbag was on the desk, a slick red concoction. She picked it up. "Come on."

"Right now?"

"Those reports aren't going anywhere. And don't use the Hotch excuse, he's gone home to Jack. You need to eat and stop thinking about murder. So yes, right now."

He thought about arguing. He also thought about when he'd told Sarah's husband to never argue with her, and that he'd have better luck trying to make first contact with an alien race then winning. He also thought about Tamara Barnes, and realized he didn't want to see her, at least until he was more awake.

He followed Garcia.

Author's Note: I know that 'When I Look to the Sky' is a bit older, but I only heard it for the first time the other day. It just sounded like it was written for these two. And was it my overactive imagination, or did their chemistry seem to come back full force during the season premiere?
