Disclaimer: I obviously don't own these characters.
Jane and Maura cuddled together on Maura's couch, Jane sipping beer and Maura screaming at the man on the TV screen.
"No you idiot! You didn't answer the question! How do you feel about equal pay for women? It's simple! Answer it!"
Jane rolled her eyes at her girlfriend, "You know he can't hear you, right?"
She immediately realized the comment was a mistake as Maura turned her still-seething face towards Jane.
"Jane, you have to be more politically involved! All these issues they're debating will directly affect us!"
"Eh, I've usually don't vote, and my life still seems to be working out okay." She winked at Maura, pulling her in for a kiss, but Maura quickly pulled away, looking agitated.
"If nothing else, what about gay rights? Don't you want to vote for the president who supports gay marriage? I know we live in Massachusetts, but we still don't get federal benefits and think about all our friends in other states!"
"Of course I want that! I care…wait. Marriage? You want to get married?"
"Well…" Maura was blushing now. "I know we haven't been 'together' for that long, but we've been friends for a while, and I was hoping that sometime in the future…"
The unfinished sentence showed Jane just how nervous Maura was about the topic. Dr. Maura Isles never left a sentence unfinished. Jane quickly sat up and hugged her reassuringly.
"I want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with you. And if it means so much, I'll vote for the guy who wants that too…. um… which one is it? The one with the squinty eyes or the one with no hair?"
"You're hopeless Jane!" Maura said laughing.
Just then Angela walked in through the back door.
"Ooh is this the debate? Go Romney!"
Jane and Maura shared a horrified glance. This could not be happening.
"Uhm, Ma? We need to talk about this…"
