It sounded kind of like a waterfall.
Rain drops falling, hitting the ground with a splash.
Most people found it calm.
But he didn't.
It went fast, and sounded angry to his ears.
It was a reminder that his life would never be right.
Remus stared straight up, thinking about how he would never get a chance.
He got out of his bed, knowing that he wouldn't be able to get back to sleep. Even if he did, he would be woken by another nightmare. He couldn't take another nightmare.
His legs moving like clockwork, he quietly stepped out of the room. Walking along the windows in the hallway, he held his fingers against the cold, foggy window.
What's the point anyway? In living. When you know, you're never going to have a future. There's no point. He wrote. Continuing on his lonely path, he wandered to the secret passage that led to the roof. It was only for the teachers, but he had found it on one of his nightly walks.
He stepped out into the cold rain, his head sitting low on his shoulders. With a sad look in his eyes, he sat on the edge of the tower. The rain poured on him, but he didn't care.
There's no point.
They don't love you.
You are just the one that does their homework.
They don't care about you.
They wouldn't care if you jumped.
You're just a monster.
In their eyes and everyone else's eyes.
He used to try and fight off the demons.
But now he knew better.
Better? It would be better if you just jumped right now.
Jumped? But… doesn't Hogwarts have wards for that?
Do it. Just do it. Your logic won't help you now.
C'mon, do it! It'll be the best thing you ever did
Remus started to stand up, slowly and shakily.
DO IT! C'MON! YOU CAN DO IT!
He started to climb on to the ledge.
YOU'RE A GRYFFINDOR, AREN'T YOU! BE BRAVE YOU MONSTER! IT'S ALL YOU HAVE LEFT!
He started to spread his arms to stabilize himself. But- what about his parents-
THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT YOU! THEY'VE HATED YOU SINCE YOU WERE BITTEN!
He shook his head, and lowered his arms, getting ready for the end.
JUMP! JUMP! DO IT! YOU'RE A MONSTER AND YOU KNOW IT SO-
"Remus?" asked a voice worriedly.
"Remus?" It came again. "Remus, get down from there."
He turned around carefully, to see McGonagall, her proud black hat wilted in the downpour. His hair, damp in the rain. Pajamas, soaked. His face was streaked with water, and she guessed it wasn't just from the rain.
But the thing that pained her the most was his eyes.
Remus's normally bright amber eyes, a result of the wolf, were now an ice blue, filled with pain and self-hatred. They glistened with unshed tears, breaking McGonagall's heart over again.
"Remus, get down. You don't want to get hurt." She attempted to calm him again.
"I… deserve to die… I'm a monster." He croaked.
"No, don't say that. You're not a monster." McGonagall coaxed.
"But…"
"Remus, who told you that? Whoever they are, they're wrong."
He only stared at her.
"Remus, come over here."
He took a small step forward, flinching like he thought he was going to be hit.
"Nobody thinks that." She said as he ran into her arms, desperately searching for comfort.
And he had found it at last.
