Captain Barbossa stood at the stern of the recently reclaimed Black Pearl. His ship had been stolen from him years before by his perpetual and eternal friend, enemy, and rival, Captain Jack Sparrow. But it was 1894 and he had not seen Sparrow for years.
Barbossa had disappeared into the abyss for years following the fight with the undead naval captain, Salazar. In their fight, to protect his long-lost daughter, Barbossa pulled Salazar down into the ocean and appeared to die in the watery grave with him. However, Barbossa did not die. Protected by the vestiges of Poseidon's Trident and residuals of a powerful protective charm cast upon him by the late sea witch Calypso.
Calypso had been his first and only love, and passed her magical gifts on to his daughter, who later proceeded to grant him immortality with the last of her magic and her life force. The only catch though, was that he must find love by the end of the one hundredth year of her passing.
Barbossa was in the waning months of this year now. He was sailing the seas in order to find the one who could give him the gift he wanted most, and he knew who it was who could help him extend his life into eternity. The only other he ever considered as strongly and passionately as he did Calypso: the Captain, Jack Sparrow.
