AN: I wrote a poem that actually rhymes (rhyming is hard…)! It's also rather… pessimistic (It seems that every poem I write is depressing or totally random)…^_^; Like practically every Rurouni Kenshin Fanfic I write, It revolves around Seta Soujiro.
The Hourglass of Life Has Run out of Sand
A poem by Meii-chan
Inspired by Rurouni Kenshin, Kyoto Arc
I vaguely remember
In the darkness of night,
That bloodstained sword,
In the blue moonlight.
That helpless smile,
Etched onto my face,
Hoping I'll survive
In this lonely place.
Dying won't make me happy,
Living won't either.
I hid him for now,
I didn't know any better.
When family asked if I knew,
I knew I was torn.
The former would kill me,
The latter would never mourn.
The man offers a sword,
I take it fearfully,
And instrument of murder,
Has been given to me.
I remember that sword
As I touch my cheek.
I don't really mind
If I'm really weak.
Those angry screams,
Their desire to kill,
A flash of realization,
Shattered the still.
A small, deadly blade,
Rested in my hand.
The hourglass of life,
Has run out of sand.
The strong live;
The weak die.
In this world,
My smile is only a lie.
One by one,
They fell, dead.
The sword no longer blue,
But a grotesque blood-red.
I tearfully look up,
At the never ending rain.
And I smile,
As the water cloaks my pain.
The hopelessness of the past,
Is the same as today.
Is it salvation or apocalypse,
In which my future lays?
