Daring Escape #2
A/N: This is kind of like a sequel to Daring Escape 1...duh...the name kind of makes it obvious lol...but anyways, Megamind is pretty much reminiscing the whole time...idk. Just R&R please.
The steady purr of the hoverbike's engine lured Kaitlin to drift off to sleep against her mentor's shoulder. The highway was deserted and Metroman hadn't followed them, so Megamind felt safe enough to drive within the speed limit without being questioned. 50 mph was slow in his opinion, but with a sleeping, soaking wet Kaitlin and a newly repaired hoverbike, he didn't feel like risking the chance of a crash.
Letting the bike slow down even more, the villain slowly granted his mind permission to let his thoughts drift back to the battle. It had gone quite well, in his opinion, except for when Kaitlin got knocked out and thrown off the bridge. And when she almost drowned because Metroman kept getting in the way of his rescue attempts. He naturally held felt the strongest fury he had in a long time, when faced with the prospect of Kaitlin getting hurt because of him.
He had felt a pang of horror from deep within his chest when he'd gotten to her. He had brought her to the surface, than dragged her onto the shore. Lying on the beach, he'd expected her to gasp for breath at any second, but after several minutes of nothing, he had to admit it, he had started to panic.
She wasn't breathing, and he didn't know what to do. Luckily, although he would never tell anyone, he had screamed loud enough when Metroman materialized behind him, that Kaitlin had woken up and coughed up the seawater she had swallowed.
He had turned to Kaitlin, and the sight of her eyelids fluttering open was enough to make him feel like Metroman had just decided to let him win. He had leaned over her, and gasped, "Kaitlin! Are you okay? Oh, God, I thought you were dead! Never do that to me again! I freaking thought you were dead on me!"
She blinked up at him, confused, and mumbled, "Do what? Why am I wet?" He smiled and pulled her in for a hug. "I'm sorry?" She asked hesitantly.
"I thought you were dead, and it was my fault," He murmured, ignoring her questions and breathing in her scent.
"Yes, I'm very sorry," She smiled back at him as he released her. "What did I do?"
"Nothing, I'll tell you when we get back home," He'd said, for once not referring to home as 'the Lair'. Then he'd gently picked her up, and carried her off the beach and back to the hoverbike bridal style, ignoring the increasing crowd of on-lookers and reporters.
The one thing he faintly remembered was walking past Roxanne Ritchi, and her staring at him, confused. He remembered Metroman, watching him closely, an eyebrow raised as he'd left the scene of their latest battle.
He had been driving for quite awhile, further than he needed to just to throw anyone (Metroman) off their trail, and Kaitlin had fallen asleep against his shoulder. He wanted to get back to the lair as soon as possible, get Kaitlin dried off and go to sleep. Those were, as of now, the only three things he wanted in life. He wanted to sleep for the entire night and wake up around noon the next day. Then he would eat cake for breakfast, describe the battle in great detail to Minion, and make sure Kaitlin was fine.
No, that wasn't right. He wanted Kaitlin dried off; than he would make sure she was okay, than he'd go to bed. Probably with her to reassure himself. He needed that. That feeling of her sitting next to him on the couch, as he watched some stupid late night show so he could see her fall asleep beside him. They did that practically every before and after-battle night. It helped calm him down and relax, ease his nerves. It took a load off his chest to make sure his two friends were okay. But for now, he would concentrate on getting them home.
Than, he would do that.
