The room was dark and cold, due to a window being carelessly left open. The night air was dark and heavy, dank with the stagnant odor of the decomposing fall leaves outside. A tired teen walked into the room and sighed, shaking his head as he moved towards the window to shut it over.

"Why can't she just stay out of my room..." Light sighed, picking up the window's key from his bedside table.

"Dunno, just remember Light. She is your Mother..." The shinigami twitched and shuddered, his neck scrunched up and body twisted, he hopped around. The noise would soon begin to annoy his "friend" and then he would get what he wanted.

"Can you stop that!?" The teen turned to him slightly, almost yelling. But he knew that if his Mother heard him, well she'd think he was crazy...and maybe...she would be right.

"Sorry...But you know what happens if I don-"

"Yeah, yeah. Your apples I know." Light then returned to his previous position and closed the window, locking it with the key in the process.

"Hmph, touchy tonight aren't we?" He continued to hop, one of his legs contorted round the other. It wasn't the prettiest site to see, but it had next to no effect on Light anymore. In the last couple of months he would have bought thousands upon thousands of the fruit for the beast to just stop, but now this was becoming all too familiar for him. The usual coming home, killing a few petty criminals, give Ryuk an apple, then nothing else. He hardly spent any time with his family anymore, just claimed he had to keep studying.

Light took a deep breath and sighed again, he walked to his door and closed it over. Turning his attention to Ryuk he almost spat out the words "In my bag."

The twisted up creature hopped over to his bag and unraveled his arms from around his neck and waist. Ryuks face lit up as he opened the bag grabbing three juicy looking apples, his smile wicked and devil like.

Light shook his head as he watched the shinigami devour the first bright red apple; he left no trace of it and sat on the bed. The teen took his usual position at his desk and removed the Death Note from his drawer. With a flick of a switch, the tiny television was lit up and the first thing to come on was of course the daily news reports.

Doing this felt right to the boy, he was mature enough. He handled the power carefully. He was the only one worthy of this book, nobody else!

Just as he opened the book and felt the pages on his soft fingers he heard the reporter say, "The newest criminal, known by the name of Kira issued an anonymous statement today. Unfortunately nobody remembered receiving this tape so there is still no name to the masked killer that is, Kira"

"Heh, they're talking about you kid! Way to go, that's gotta be like the sixth time this week!" He said through chomping down on another succulent apple.

"B-but...I didn't issue a statement!"

"Eh, who cares? It's probably just that girl."

"No, this can't be Misa...She wouldn't do it unless I said to..."

The reporter's voice caught between them talking. "It seems that the detective known as L, that was hired by the police force is also no closer to knowing the whereabouts of Kira, are we so certain that he is as great as people say?" The reporter's voice again faded into the background for Light.

The voice inside his head picked up "Heh, h-he has no idea! After monitoring me and everything...oh this is too sweet a victory! Heh!" The voice chuckled loudly in his head, making his own lips curl up into a smirk.

"You're doing it again..."

"Uh, doing what?" Light seems to snap back into reality and his face returns to normal.

Ryuk sighed and shook his head "Oh, nothing...Nothing at all" That kid's insane! No way will he last with this kinda power, no way...
