The Smiling Girl

"I have to smile." said a smiling girl, who's eyes were so very sad.

"I have to smile." repeated the smiling girl, her heart breaking apart into pieces.

"I have to smile." said the smiling girl, who's steps were getting hesitant.

"I have to smile." said the smiling girl, tears welling up in her eyes.

"I have to smile." whispered the smiling girl, her voice getting softer.

"I have to smile." said the smiling girl, as tears fell one by one, onto her face.

"I have to smile." said the smiling girl, looking up at the bright sky.

"I have to smile." said the smiling girl, that smile too sad to be true.

"Why must you smile?" said the sky, for it's worried for the girl.

"I have to smile." said the smiling girl, smiling. "For others will be sad, if I don't."

"Even if you are very sad, must you smile?" the sky asked, very concerned for the girl.

"I have to smile." said the smiling girl, who's smile was faltering.

"I have to smile." repeated the smiling girl.

"Are you sad, while smiling?" asked the sky once more, to make sure the girl was fine.

"I am sad while smiling, but..." the smiling girl replied. "I have to smile."

"What a sad life." said the sky, now curious about the girl.

"I'm not sure, but I know one thing." said the smiling girl, who's eyes were empty. "I have to smile."

"Even if you are smiling, if you're sad, wont everybody be sad?" asked the sky, determined to get the girl to stop smiling.

"Even so, I have to smile. It will be okay if no one finds out that I am sad." The smiling girl responded. "I have to smile."

With that, the sky stopped questioning the girl and stayed with her, and all the while, the smiling girl sat on a hill, repeating, "I have to smile".

For the rest of the day, she stayed like that, on a bright sunny day, with the concerned sky watching out for her.

"I have to smile." said the smiling girl, who's eyes were smiling as well.

"I have to smile." repeated the smiling girl, her heart slowly healing.

"I have to smile." said the smiling girl, who sat on that hill so peacefully.

"I have to smile." said the smiling girl, her smile warmer than ever.

"I have to smile." said the smiling girl, her voice so very firm.

"I have to smile." said the smiling girl, her eyes bright and full.

"I have to smile." said the smiling girl, making a flower tiara from the flowers on the hill.

"I have to smile." said the smiling girl, with the smile on her face that everybody loved.

"Are you sad, and still smiling?" asked the sky, just once more.

"I have to smile, and I want to smile, for I am sad no more." the smiling girl replied.

"Are you happy then?" the sky wondered, glad to hear the girl wasn't sad.

"I have to smile, because yes, I am happy." responded the smiling girl.

"Why are you happy?" the sky asked again, wanting to know.

"I am happy because you stayed with me, who was alone." the smiling girl replied. "And so, I have to smile."

"Well then. I will smile too, because I am happy." the smiling sky said, delightedly.
