It's not a very good story, but I've had writer's block and I'm trying to get back into the groove. Sorry. Anyway, thanks for reading

Lilly slammed the door and ran. The rain pelted her as tears slid down her cheeks. But it was nothing compared to the storm inside that house.
Even if her head didn't know where she was going, her feet knew. They carried her fast through the rain to his door.

Without stopping to think she began pounding on his door.

Jackson heard the pounding and knew it was her. It was always the same story. Lilly's mother was an alcoholic and the confrontations at home had been escalating. He opened the door and Lilly threw herself into his arms, sobbing harder than she had been just minutes before.

Jackson held her in her arms and stroked her hair. He felt sorry for her. He knew it must be hard for her. But he'd never figured out why it was always him she ran to. It was after all his sister who was her best friend.

Lilly breathed in Jackson's scent. It calmed her. She knew he must think she was crazy for always coming to him. But the truth was she was in love with him. She had been forever. And she only felt better when she was in his arms.

Suddenly a voice from behind them startled her, "Jackson?"

Lilly looked to see a beautiful woman standing there. And she felt her heart sink.

"I'll be right there, Sara." Jackson said. Then he looked down at Lilly.

"I'm sorry," Lilly whispered feeling broken and defeated. "I'll go."

"Hey, Lilly, you gonna be okay?" he smiled at her.

"Uh-huh." She forced a smile on her face. Then she turned to go. Halfway down the walk she turned hoping to see him watching her walk away, but the door was closed and he was gone. The tears began to fall again. She'd always wished Jackson would feel the same about her that she felt about him, but she'd always known it would never happen.

She knew she'd always be just his little sister's best friend. And somehow that would have to be enough.
