Breathe Again

Every Sailor and Pirate knows that a kiss from a mermaid makes a person never sink or drown. No man I know has been kissed by a mermaid because well, no man has ever seen one. I never really got the point of not sinking or drowning after the kiss. Does that mean, if a man were to be thrown to sea and has been kissed by a mermaid, he will be floating around bobbing up and down in the water? Well I, Philip Swift would never know, until I met Syrena
Syrena. I've only known her for a week and we've been through a lot. At first, I pierced her fin, and she got locked up in a glass cage. I then cracked the cage open to let her breathe. Her glass cage broke, so I gave her my shirt and carried her throughout the island. Then, sort of found out her name was Syrena. Afterwards, she thought I was dead, but I wasn't. When she saw me alive she shed a tear of joy and the pirates took that tear. Syrena thought I was in the plan (I wasn't) and became infuriated with me. About a day later I thought she was dead and asked God to give her back. When I saw her alive she just swam away. I had gotten into a fight and got stabbed. I then went to some water and found her...
One kiss, no sinking or drowning for the rest of your life.
As we kissed she pulled me into the water. I held my breath. We swam through a tunnel and stopped at the exit of the tunnel. We sat at the edge. Syrena laughed. I think she knew i was holding my breath.
"You can breathe, you know." She said with a giggle.
I opened my mouth. A few bubbles came escaped. "I didn't know if I could breathe again." She and I looked at each other and smiled. And with that we kissed.
And the rest is history. Sort of...
