This week's charity event was decidedly more formal than most previous ones. All guests were dressed to the nines. They were in a large, nicely decorated hall with a dance floor in the middle where couples were dancing gracefully. Tony was actually having a good time; he'd danced with Natasha and Pepper and forced Bruce onto the floor with Natasha. Everyone was in a good mood. Nothing had gone drastically wrong this week and they had a chance to have a nice time tonight. Tony was currently sitting on one of the tables around the dance floor talking to one of the charity ambassadors and trying to work out what would be a good amount of money to give. He eventually asked if the woman he was talking to, Stacy would like to have a dance with him. She, of course, agreed. Well, he was Tony Stark, who wouldn't agree. He made it clear however that he had no intentions towards her, probably a little unnecessary as everyone knew he was with Steve, who was not at the party. To be honest he just liked telling everyone that he was with Steve, it made him so happy and he didn't want to screw it up with miscommunications.
He had hoped Steve was going to come, but he had politely declined. When Tony asked why, he thought it would be simple but Steve had just said 'No reason' and walked off. With some gentle persuasion, Tony had convinced Steve to tell him. Steve explained how dancing held bad memories for him, with Peggy and his last words to her being about their date and how he had never danced because he was 'waiting for the right partner'. Tony had been hurt by this but Steve quickly assured he was the right partner, he just didn't think he could do it without being emotional about Peggy and feeling he was betraying her. Tony understood and didn't want to push Steve, so had come to the party alone.
He was talking to Stacy, dancing gracefully, when he felt a hand on his shoulder. He expected it to be someone to dance with Stacy but then he heard an all too familiar voice. "May I cut in?" Stacy giggled and wandered off. Tony turned to find Steve smiling at him. "But.. Peggy?" he asked confused. Steve just smiled.
"Like I said, I was waiting for the right partner, and I found him. I was being stupid, Peggy would want this. You are the one who I want to dance with."
Tony beamed and moved into Steve's hold, noticing he looked hesitant. "It's easy really. Step with me, do some turns and try not to step on my feet." Tony winked. "I'll help don't worry."
And so they danced around the floor, not always perfectly, but it was perfect to them. Steve got more confident as the dance went on and they were twirling and laughing soon. Eventually Tony pulled Steve to the edge of the floor and put his arms around his neck. "As great as you are at dancing, I'm tired, so we're going to dance here. Well sway." He grinned. Steve put his hands on Tony's waist and began to sway with him. "Worth the wait?"
"Definitely worth the wait. I'm glad I did." Steve smiled softly, before leaning down to kiss Tony. Tony kissed back softly and moved his hands to card through Steve's hair.
"Does this mean you'll come to the parties now?"
"Only if you are my date." Steve said, squeezing Tony.
"Of course." Tony said and leaned back up to kiss Steve once more.
