Blaine had always known the day would come where he had to say goodbye to Kurt, even if it was only for a short while. Even when the news came that Kurt wasn't going to go to NYADA in the fall, he knew that there would be a goodbye. Because New York was Kurt Hummel's dream, and nobody kept Kurt Hummel from what he wanted.
And yet, despite the fact that he had been anticipating this goodbye all along, he couldn't keep the tears at bay. He was looking at his boyfriend in person, holding him, for what would likely be the last time for four months. Four whole months.
Blaine sniffled, wiping the tears from his eyes and forcing out a laugh, looking up at Kurt lovingly. "I shouldn't be crying. It's not like we're never seeing each other again." He ducked his head out of embarrassment and wiped his eyes once more in vain. The tears just kept coming. He clutched tighter onto Kurt's shoulders, not wanting to let go. This was their last night together before Kurt left early tomorrow morning and he just- he just couldn't.
Kurt rubbed Blaine's back soothingly in their embrace. He reached over with his free hand towards the record player in his room (a graduation gift from last year, along with a small collection of records that Carole helped his father pick out) and put the needle on the record. Familiar notes echoed throughout the room and Blaine let out a small chuckle, muffled from where he'd buried his head in Kurt's shoulder. Pulling his face back, he waited for the short introduction to be over before starting the song, staring up into his boyfriend's eyes with a small smile playing on his face.
"Unforgettable, that's what you are," he sang quietly, voice still thick with tears. Kurt smiled broadly and began swaying them back and forth, picking up the next line.
"Unforgettable, though near or far."
"Like a song of love that clings to me,
how the thought of you does things to me,
never before, has someone been more."
Blaine's voice became stronger the more he sang and he began twirling slowly with Kurt, the two of them dancing and reveling in each other's company and the simple tenderness of the moment.
"Unforgettable, in every way." Kurt began again, brushing his lips against Blaine's lightly. They began the next lines together, both smiling softly.
"And forever more,
That's how you'll stay
That's why darling it's incredible,
that someone so unforgettable,
thinks that I am unforgettable to."
They continued to sway around in lazy circles, continuing to just hold each other and listen to the gentle notes of the record player. When the last notes finally came, they stopped their dancing and just stared into one another's eyes, singing softly.
"And that's why darling, it's incredible, that someone so unforgettable, thinks that I am unforgettable too."
